Like the Saxons themselves, this beer has suffered from misunderstanding and prejudice. And if Saxony can produce the likes of Bach, Wagner, Neitzsche and Luther then it stands to reason that they shouldn't have much trouble making a quality pilsner. And they don't because this is it. The first German brewery to exlusively make pilsners, Radeberger continues to make pure unchanged archetypical pilsner to this day. I've had it numerous times over the past twenty years and I remain struck by its consistentcy.

Foamy from the first pour there is no need to give the beer any force as the head, supported by a cornucopia of fine beading everywhere, gives nothing less than a 2 inch head throughout every sip. Not exactly sparkling in its pale straw yellow colour and the nose hides the drinker from what awaits them but...
Some slight bitter fizziness to start followed immediately by a firm medium solid body where the malt supports and allows the hops to dominate giving it a long involving chewy lingering bitterness. This firmness is especially noticable in the middle and although its intensity diminishes by the time you swallow it is persistent and builds with every drink. There's no doubt in my mind that this is one of Germany's finest pilsners.

Too bad so many here just don't get it. I'd like to believe it has something to do with the condition and age of bottles once people in the US finally get this beer but to be honest its probably because most BAers can't tell the difference between a quality pilsner and a quart of Olde English 800.
Watch out. This is a werewolf in sheep's clothing.

From 07/10/14 notes. Poured into a pilsner glass.

a - Pours a crystal clear bright yellow color with one finger of fluff white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of grains, bready malts, wheat, German malts, earthy notes, dough, and biscuit malts. Nice nose, lots of bread and grains.

t - Tastes of grains, bready malts, light floral hops, earthy malts, dough, bsicuit malts, and wheat. Little step up from the nose, a little more flavor here. Nice.

m - Light, crisp body and low to moderate carbonation. Easy to drink.

o - Overall a nice, crisp, easy drinking pilsner. Nothing mind blowing but solid and what I was looking for.

I like the beer...as I do many others. The point being there are a lot of beers in this world to chose from - and now Radeberger has decided to cut their bottle size from 12 oz to 11.2 oz in the name of profits. So it's time to move on to one of the many others available that are every bit as good if not better and still use 12 oz bottles.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 062014-L156/13. Sampled on July 5, 2014.

The pour is your typical pilesner pale yellow with a big white fizzy head. So it looks like it supposed to.

Grainy and and German malt aroma on the nose. Mild but clean hops too.

Light body for the most part but there is a kind of creamy feel to it.

Grains, clean hops, mild sweetness are the terms i would use to describe this pilsener. And it is a pilsener. Nothing more. Nothing less. Stylewise - OK.

03/19/13 On tap. This time around I get a vague piney aftertaste. Still pretty damn refreshing but lite beer people won't like it's inherent body profile.

07/2013 On tap. Way behind on this one. I've had it many times but not made any notes. At first blush it's tad bitter with a lingering finish. Refreshing but not too light. As a matter of fact it's definitely on the robust side. Old school money's worth of flavor.
