Reviewed from notes. Shared by Jay - thanks. Bottle #310 of 2108. 136 IBU.

A: Pours a dark reddish with a half-inch thick off-white head which fades to a thin cap a yields spotty lace.

N: Malty and faint citrus notes.

T: Boozy, butterscotch, malty.

M: Semi-full body and medium carbonation. Malty, sticky, semi-sweet finish.

O: Not sure what this is celebrating. Whatever it is, I'll pass.

Bottle #293/2108

This beer was surprisingly balanced considering the IBU rating of 136 !! The malt character and wide variety of hops used seemed to help produce a silky mouthfeel. The beer was smooth and very drinkable even for those who are afraid of +100 IBU brews. Great job BHBC Crew !

I'm really impressed with this beer. Just randomly picked it being an imperial red ale and really was into how it tasted. Unlike any other beer I've tried before. Smooth amazing unique red taste, and kept me wanting more. I went back and got 3 more bottles. 1 for myself and 2 for friends to try and they were just as stoked. What a great 1 year anniversary beer!

Bottle pour at the post-FWIBF bottle share held at the Adelaide Inn in Paso Robles, CA.

Celebratory Ale No. 1.

Pours a hazy orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop and wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty but has a slightly better aroma in my opinion.

This ale is a great way to represent what the first year was all about: Deeply in the red, but strong enough to break out and be free.

The hand wax dipped and numbered bottle were a nice touch. It shows the guys were proud of their first year. The pour was nice and the deep red color was amplified by the creamy head.

The nose was intriguing, inviting you to taste the rich, bold hop flavor of the ale.

My mouth is watering thinking about this beer as you read and I type. It was easy to drink, as one pull invites another.

This is a big red ale on a hop trip. After 2 of them, you may even see a big red rabbit hopping around the grass at the brewery...I really like this beer. The hops are wildly present and at the same time, the body is strong like bull.

I can't wait for year 2.
