Notes/Commercial Description:
BarrelHouse India Pale Ale – Hoppy | Dank | Mango
Like our Pale Ryder, we want you to first inhale close your eyes and dig deep, take in all the dank, herbal, and mango hop goodness. We’ve built this delicious IPA around our favorite hops Simcoe, Cascade, Centennial, and Mosaic. Now open your eyes and take a gulp and let the bitterness, malt character, and aroma play tug-a-war across your palate. We haven’t skimped and believe this is how an IPA should taste. Satisfy your hop addiction with this excellently crafted IPA.

I had this beer in morro bay at the hofbrau restaurant. i had not heard of the beer, but was willing to give it a go. i asked for a taste and was immediately hooked. this is one of the most bitter and hoppy brews i have tried. it leaves a bitter aftertaste on your palette making you want to have more.

this beer was so good at hofbrau that i seeked out the brewery in paso robles, california. the brewery is a beautiful location slightly off the beaten path with a warehouse feel, a fountain, interior bar and outside picnic tables.

i am a bit jealous of a brewery who has managed to be able to create many beers that i can enjoy. i wish i had the talent that BHBC does.

A - The ale is a golden color typical of an ipa.

S - nice and citris, pine, IPA ish.

T - This is the high point. a nice easy bitterness that does not stop. even long after the taste.

M - nice full mouth.

Congratulations BHBC on a fine beverage.

The beer poured a light copper color with a fingers worth of a bright white head that left great lacing. The aroma was of orange, lemon and pine needles. The taste had an immediate blast of bitterness on the front of the tongue followed by citrus, mango and pine needles and finished fairly dry with a nice rich malt backbone and lingering bitterness. Overall a nice example of a West Coast IPA.

On tap @ BarrelHouse.

A - Cloudy orange/amber colour with a thin layer of cream coloured head.

S/T - Moderate bitterness for the style. Pine with light grapefruit and a big caramel malt backbone.

M - Medium body. Creamy and Sticky. Light carbonation.

BarrelHouse
IPA deserves this perfect score. Balance and depth send it over the edge above all other IPAs. Outstanding malt and caramel notes contrast perfectly the sharp bitterness and flow synergistically with the floral fruit forward topical hop nose. For me this is my paragon.

Served out of a 22oz bomber into a tulip glass.
No bottle date. Yet it was new to the store and there was no fuzz or sediment at the bottom of the bottle indicating freshness.

Appearance was gorgeous. Even my wife said "oh that's pretty"
Smell is what hit me first. Exactly what I look for in an IPA. Personally I'm a double and triple IPA guy. So even though the smell was great I actually expected the ...
Taste to let me down. Boy was I surprised with this one. Awesome balanced crisp sweet hop fruit pine bitter flavor profile.
Mouthfeel on an IPA isn't a deal breaker for me. This one is good one. I like the dryness. Good carbonation. A bit thin, but it's not a big deal.
Overall, one of the best single IPA's I've had.

This beer has exactly what I'm looking for in an IPA; Fruity hoppy nose up front, crisp mouth feel and that hoppy attention grabbing finish making me look forward to the next sip.
Warning though, this bad boy will get you walkin' crooked real quick. This is another must try from BHBC.

On tap at the brewery – Paso Robles, CA
4oz taster – 08/18/2014

A: Pours a darker caramel amber body with a well conditioned clarity about it. Nice fatty lip of khaki suds covering for a few minutes until finally subsiding. Nice tracked lacing intervals as I make my way through the drink.

S: Weedy and dank herbal spice rolls over grapefruit, pine, melon, and some tropical flowers. There is a light undercurrent of caramel malt sweetness to this but man the hops are just killer. Super dankalicous and done proper.

T: Resinous dank pine with hibiscus flower meets juicy ripe grapefruit and bursts of tropical mango. A really great hop profile with a moderate to upper level of bitterness. Malt is there if not nearly void save some sugary caramel bits incorporated to help balance. Finish is dry with a long lasting linger and alcohol kept well disguised. Very good and just to my liking.

M: Moderate to lighter body with a touch of constricting bitterness on the palate. Dry and resinous finish with lots of residual hop oils and malt sugars.

D: Incredibly dank, fresh, and fruity this is just everything I look for in an IPA. Malt is negligible but at the same time just enough to pull it all together. Well done BarrelHouse. I will be back for more.
