Dark chestnut brown in the tulip. Modest carbonation with a pleasant prickly mouthfeel. Rich and surprisingly full bodied. Brewery claims this is made from a second run on the mash of the Big Deluxe imperial oat stout.

Plentiful oat flavor, a grainy and scratchy taste. Lots of burnt malt and scorched oatmeal. Smooth and silky mouthfeel as the carbonation disappears. Rather bitter aftertaste, but well balanced with the winey character. Plenty of flavor for the moderate alcohol. An interesting mouthful. On tap at Stone Liberty Station.

On tap at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oats, and cocoa. Taste is much the same with a cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

On-tap at the brewery itself, a small beer made from Ritual's imperial stout. On to the beer:

This ink black beer features a beige head on top, a somewhat roasty, astringent, and unsweetened chocolate aroma, and a pleasing flavor. A kiss of hops makes its presence first, before unsweetened chocolate and creamy oats make this small beer flavorful while being very drinkable. The beer is light/medium bodied and gently carbonated, and overall I would take this small beer over many of the session IPA's that have become trendy of late.
