holy crap! there really IS a bunch of sediment in this.... suspended in solution. in the water business we call this turbidity and it'll give ya the sh*ts!! but i'm sure (?) this is an entirely different matter....
orange brown. soft pour, hardly any head. next one will be more vigorous. light lace on the sides, not very oily. not much resin or bitterness. smells and savors a bit sweet, with a bit of orange on top of some grapefruit rind. relatively well balanced and very easy to drink. the sediment is so heavy it makes the brew hazy and the size of the sediment is about the same of some nice carbonation. code on bottle says "23513". May 23rd, 2013? right next to it it says to "drink fresh". so give us a DATE, morons. geez.... and if it IS May 2013, then proper gratuities go out (AGAIN) to Bevmo for holding MORE outdated and over-extended beer.... know where you buy. and check the dates even still from the ones you trust. Bevmo in Huntington Beach is becoming a sore. the store is categorized by their own company as a B store, meaning they don't get CRAP. you have to travel to Irvine if you want the real selection and availability of what they receive. what's the point then? fold up shop and give the territory to TW. they earned it anyway.... rant over. maybe...
overall, decent. okay. nice color. slightly orange-ish head upon more vigorous pour. some good fruit.

Another IPA, another hop pun. This is Ritual's version of the style, which will be consumed from a glass via 22 ounce bottle. On to the beer:
I pour two-thirds of the bottle into my glass, and I already have some floating sediment in the beer's body. The color is orangish brown and is topped with a half-inch of decent head. But those dots of sediment pose an eyesore, which shouldn't be happening after two-thirds a pour of brewery fresh IPA. But it does smell pleasant initially. Zests of citrus, pineapple, kiss of alcohol, and a caramel base brings hope for good things to come. With a little time, I get a big dose of alcohol fumes coming through.
The beer does have a happy baselines of hoppiness. It also has some alcohol cutting through the beer, which is disappointing because the base tastes nice. Not very bitter, fresh tasting hops bring vibrant citrus and tropical fruit notes. The alcohol has a solvent character which disrupts some of the harmony. Decent malt base adding some sweetness. Despite the alcohol, the beer has a somewhat smooth texture and isn't very bitter on the palate.
Hop-O-Matic is acceptable and has potential to be better. Tighening the grip of the alcohol would be a great place to start, something I though I wouldn't type given how well I thought Hellion was.
