Stop #404 on my world brewery tour.
Yeah, it's a chain - I know. Been to quite a few RB's when there's not much else to choose from. Always liked the ability of the brewer to create some of their own creations. In this case, I went with a very well done spiced pumpkin ale. Imperial pint was too much as a night cap so while it was very good, I wasn't able to drink the whole thing.
Got the fish taco small plate which was tasty.
Server was nice but as is expected, not a beer connoisseur. There was a high school team of about 40 people who came in after me and she made sure my food order got in before them.

For those passing by the river in downtown Milwaukee, this is a convenient stop. And for those who work nearby, I certainly understand the positives. It is a large, bright space, that is good for groups. And they have a full bar, so your colleagues who do not like beer, can order a scotch, cosmo or whatever.
Beer was alright, but nothing great that I tried while there. The scotch ale, I feel was one of their better offerings. A good way to start a bar crawl and maybe eat some pub grub. Friendly staff helped make the visit a positive one.

Had the Bourbonzola burger with chips and a pint of Rock Bottom IPA. Beer was good but the burger was excellent. The Jim Beam glaze was outstanding and the Gorgonzola cheese added a lot of flavor. The chips were kind of chewy and I did not finish my portion.
Service was decent, waitress recommended the burger and said it was her favorite. Atmosphere was pretty average, I went during lunch hour so there were a lot of business professionals. There were plenty of tv's to catch all the March Madness action.
The Mug Club is a pretty cool idea to sample all of their beers. I also am looking forward to their tap parties. I will definitely be back there in a couple of weeks. I will also recommend to friends and family.

This place is your prototypical chain, and even a plainer one than most. It was packed to the gills on a Saturday night, at least 40-50 people waiting, all inside because it was pretty cold out.
I just stayed long enough to finish a sampler of the 9 beers with friends. It is actually not the worst brewpub stuff but the lager was diacetyl-ridden. The ales were all done to an average quality but nothing was really terrible.
The bartender I had was attractive and attentive, there was one other there that was not so much.
Overall a weak place if you are going for beer and atmosphere but good if you want a cheap fix.

Stoped in here with a group of friends recently. It's a chain and everyone knows it. They aren't trying to be anything other than that so I give credit.
Typical brew pub. Tons of pub tables, high back chairs and booths. Smallish bar. Plenty of TV's to check the scores. We popped in downstairs to see what was happening. Unfortunately it was filled with what seemed like a frat party. Loud music, beer pong and a fullly packed bar. Immediate 180 back up the stairs we went.
Service in the main bar was decent. We didn't eat while visiting this time. However I have eaten here before and it's solid pub grub.
Overall I'm not a big fan of the place but it serves it's purpose.

Located in downtown Milwaukee, right on the river, a hip spot, plenty of wood, the usual mix of sports bar and pub atmosphere. Really cool to be out on the patio during the summer. Quality of the brews is decent, especially considering some of the chain breweries on the west coast (not Rock Bottom).
Service was nothing special, nothing terrible. Selection, this rock bottom doesn't branch out as adventurous as some of the ones in California, but the staple styles are usually available and decent enough. Love the chicken wings here, go here on the all you can eat/drink night on Thursday I think if they still do that.

Visited last spring with my brother. Seemed like a nice place to go for some food and a beer, although they had some good beers. Server was insincere though about knowledge of beer, when she called one I got an Imperial Stout and I said it tasted like a Barleywine, which she then said... like that is actually what it was. That particular drink I was very impressed with, knowing that this was sort of a microbrewery chain. I don't know if they're independently owned or corporate or whatever, but it was enjoyable and would consider going to one again. The selection was also good, if not better than good as many other smaller brew pubs probably would not even carry a barleywine.

Visited 10/10/2010 (Sunday night). 9 house taps.
Surprisingly busy for a Sunday night. I parked about a half mile away near Milwaukee Ale house and hiked over to Rock Bottom afterwards. Sitting at the bar with my sampler set of course started some conversations and I ended up talking to a person that used to live where I live now, a couple from somewhere on the east coast (can't remember), and a local. Nice people.
The service was nice too. They were happy to answer any questions they could but for the most part left me alone to talk amongst themselves.
9 beers to choose from and some were decent. Didn't try the food. Great location, right on the water.

Rock Bottom is my go-to place for lunch from work if it is a nice day; the patio area is completely worth it. I have also spent some beautiful summer evenings there with my friends and a few pitchers.
The atmosphere is pretty standard, a clean and expansive place with comfortable seating. I have had both good and bad service there, although on the whole it has been a good impression for me. The food is of decent variety, on the pricey side of reasonable but not bad at all for a nice downtown brewpub.
The beer is decent, I will usually get the Pale Ale or Seasonal. fresh beer is nice and their brews are not offensive. As previously mentioned, add decent beer to a great patio and the overall experience is very pleasant. Check it out during one of the few warm months in MKE.

My girlfried and I decided to stop by this place while on the River Walk in downtown Milwaukee. I really enjoyed sitting outside along the river. Tried the cheese curds for an appetizer which were very satisfying. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. He explained the menu and the knew a thing or two about the beer. Not too many options on the menu but what they had was solid. I tried the texas fire steak which turned out to be rich in flavor and a tad spicy. The peppers and onions blanketed the outside of the steak which added an unpleasant texture, however, it paired well with the smoky flavor of their chocolate stout. Overall, it was a nice experience.
