Visited twice on August 29/30
In town on a business trip, I happened to be staying a few floors up at the (very nice) HotelVetro; this small grocery was conveniently located at ground level, facing directly toward Iowa City's vibrant College Street pedestrian mall. The beer (and wine) department is in the far corner of this organic-oriented store (think a miniaturized Whole Foods), with a small counter and several stools for tastings. The beers are arranged neatly in 4 reach-in coolers ~ I counted 90 or so individual bottles/cans and at least 100 4/6-packs. There is a walk-in cooler (where the macro-lager stuff is kept), but pretty much everything on display in the coolers (and a few random room-temp displays: Goose Island and Madhouse were prominently featured) is 'craft' or nicer imports.
I browsed the first visit and only picked up a couple singles the second (Founders Dirty Bastard and Bell's Two Hearted), as I knew I'd be shopping more at nearby John's Grocery. Bottle prices were generally 10-20% higher than what I saw at John's. There was nobody (shoppers or staff) in the department on either visit, but check-out was friendly enough.
There is outdoor seating along the mall (not sure if you can purchase/consume beer there - I didn't ask or attempt) and a well-stocked deli. Many folks were having sandwiches, salads or coffees; I didn't dine or drink there, so I can't comment.
Not a beer 'destination', but will certainly do in a pinch...
