Stop #411 on my world brewery tour.
It's about time. I live less than 10 minutes from Fifty West and it's taken me the better part of a year to visit.
Really well done job with rehabbing an old house that never could find its business groove. Low ceilings and mood lighting create a cozy atmosphere. Lots of beers on tap and if you get there..I think it's before six, you can get a flight of beers for $5.
I did two of those and went with a full pour of the cask citra dry hop punch you in the eyIPA which was a very nice beer. Can't help but mention the Phish-inspired beer names. Also had a Slave to the Traffic Light Amber.
All the beers from top two bottom were very well done and there was enough experimentation with (seasonal) ingredients to keep me wanting to make periodic visits.
The two ladies behind the bar were friendly and did a well above average job in describing the beers to those with questions.
I'll be back!

Place is set up kind of like a lodge. Very cozy. 12 taps covering most all of your basic styles. All very solid, but nothing particularly mind blowing. The coffee stout was the best that we had, and to be honest, it was a truly exceptional example of the style. The owners seem to be young guys, but they are friendly and clearly giving this an honest effort. A free shuffleboard table is always a nice touch too. Servers were very pleasant and knew their product. Free pretzels and beer cheese from a local bakery chain are a super nice touch, and there is a food truck outside. A welcome addition to our growing beer scene in Cincinnati.
Have visited a few times since my original review, and it gets a little worse each time I go. The beer is always a little watery for the style. The service is usually nice, but as they seem to transition into a tapas bar, the stuff that made this place cool at first is continuing to go away. For the neighborhood, it's still good, and if this were five years ago, it would be a total destination in town. But the craft scene is changing a lot in Cincinnati, and this place isn't at the top of the pack.
