I really liked the "standard" Up All Night soe I picked this up yesterday to compare the two.Pours almost opaque except for just a slight reddish brown highlight at the bottom of the glass when held to the light,a creamy beige head atop.Aromas of dark fruit and sweet bourbon, there is a slight buttery note in there as well.A nice smooth almost slick feel makes for way to easy drinking. The boubon plays a big role on the palate but doesn't smack you in the face,it goes well with the drunken dark fruit and chocolate/mocha flavors.Wow this is almost too easy to drink because it's not over the top with bourbon and sweetness,a well made barrel aged "big" porter here.

A: pours black with a finger of dark tan head that fades into a frothy ring with good lacing.

S: Sweet chocolate and creamy coffee up front with oak and vanilla following. Bourbon brings up the finish without overwhelming.

T: Semi-sweet chocolate with a bit of vanilla and char at first followed by oak, some robust coffee, and bourbon. The finish is only lightly boozy.

M: Medium-thick body with lowish carbonation, this beer is a little on the thin side for a big barrel-aged beer.

O: A really enjoyable beer overall. The only real downfall of the beer is its body which I would like to be a bit creamier.

Poured into a Haw River Farmhouse Ales teku glass. Label says 11/20/14.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with a 1/2 inch light brown head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Sweet aroma of mild oak notes plus some vanilla and caramel.

T- The sweetness continues with a pronounced note of vanilla plus some more mild oak. Slightly medicinal aftertaste. Very smooth for the ABV. The coffee finally starts to come through after multiple consecutive sips.

M- Quite viscous for a porter with medium carbonation and a full body.

O- Really good stuff, though I got more coffee out of the base beer and would actually prefer it to this BA version. Still, well done.

Delicious. Popped open a bottle at the Monstro release at NoDa brewing this morning, 11/1/14. A little boozy in the nose, but a good balance of bourbon and the coffee and roasty porter flavors on a quick follow up. Not too heavy, but tons of flavor.

Porter brewed with honey, coffee added, and aged in bourbon barrels. Poured from a bottle into a Lost Abbey Teku. The pour is very dark (practically black) and sports an impressive persistent 2.5 fingers of coarse tan head that leaves behind some big clumps of lace. Lots of rich, boozy bourbon notes on the nose along with dark chocolate, toasted oak, and vanilla. I don't get as much coffee on the nose as I expected. I'm sure it's there, but the predominant notes are rich, sweet notes, not roasty.

Full body and a round, creamy feel. Sweet malt up front, vanilla, marshmallows, chocolate sauce, and lots of bourbon. Molasses, toffee, creamy milk-like sweetness, and a slight hint of dark fruit. Not boozy, but definitely warming and doesn't try to hide all of the alcohol. I'm missing the characteristic roastiness one expects from a porter and whatever coffee is there is not at all assertive. Rather lacking in complexity. It's all sweet, dessert-like flavors and no bitter roastiness to balance it out and add an extra dimension. Finishes warm with a pleasant bourbon-and-butterscotch-candy lingering flavor.

If I tried this blind, I'd never have guessed it was a porter. The beer drinks like a bourbon-barrel-aged milk stout. That said, I have to give it a good taste rating because it does taste really good. I'll have to try the standard (non-barrel-aged) version to see how it drinks. I would definitely buy this beer again.

22 oz waxed bottle. Dark brown/black colored body, small tan head with nice retention and lacing. Aromas of bourbon, molasses, wood, and coffee. Up-front on the taste is coffee and bourbon, followed by a sweetness probably from the honey though it is not a distinct honey taste. Pretty good.
