Had on tap at the brewery. Poured dark brown with a reddish tinge at the edges, light tan head and moderate lacing as I drank. Smell was mostly cocoa, roasted malt, and coffee, though the smell in general was pretty mild. I only sensed a touch of spice. Taste hit the same notes, with mild coffee and a dry roasted flavor dominating - some hop bitterness, but nothing overpowering. The spice hits at the end of a few sips and lingers for a bit. Kind of forgot I was drinking a spiced beer until I felt my lips tingling a little bit. Medium to light mouthfeel for the style, which is similar to the other Triple C beers.
A highly drinkable and enjoyable beer, and the best I've tasted from Triple C. Much more subtle than most other spiced/chile beers I've tried, and something I'd order again.

On tap @ Flying Saucer Charlotte. Stout with Cayenne pepper added. Black with a thin covering of light mocha froth. Robust sticky lace. Smells dark and smoky with additional notes of cocoa, toffee and green citrus. Light spice from the peppers lingers in the back of the nose with some heat. The taste is mostly dark roasted malts, which have a burnt, smoky and borderline acrid feel to them (especially in the finish). Citric hops give this some bite, while chocolate sweetness does its best to balance things on the edges. The pepper here isn’t nearly as overbearing or distracting as I’ve had in some spiced beers and actually adds some extra flavor to this, leaving some warm heat lingering in the back of the throat. The mouthfeel is lighter to medium bodied with a relatively smooth feel for the most part but this is a little thin feeling considering the flavors. This was just OK. I thought that the use of the Cayenne pepper here was actually pretty well done but the thinness of the body and the overall looseness of the profiles in spots needs some work.
