Well, with the Red Sox World Series Rolling Rally having concluded, daughter Caitlin and I scooted over to Beer Works Fenway yesterday for some celebratory lunch. And, for me, a bier or 3...

Was hoping there'd be some leftover Doppelbock, but with it gone the Scotch Ale was a good choice. Poured a deep, opaque, burnt sienna hue, with a thinnish, tan, rim-clinging head. Glass got coated nicely by the residual foam. Aroma was mild, with lightly sweet malty notes wafting about. Nary any hopping to be inhaled. The liquid was creamy and smooth, though the body tended a smidge to the thinner side of medium.

Flavor, too, was semi-sweet, with some caramel and brown-sugar coating the tongue. Did not get any suggestions of peat or smokiness at all here, and nothing in the way of lupulins, either. Mainly a decent, easily quaffable, malty brew. Nothing suggesting anything in the way of complexity, just a nicely sessionable brew. Go Sox!!

Prosit!!

(Note from sample quaffed at Lowell Beer Works on 23JUN13: Both aroma and flavor had noticeable peaty/smoky notes. Still lacking complexity, but nicely quaffable.)
