Had on-tap at the Boston Beer Works, Logan Airport.

A pleasant, clear, orange/amber brew with very little foam but high retention. Get a little straw/grassy hops at the beginning of each whiff, but not strong enough for my nose. Taste is a dry IPA. Not bad, just not exciting or intriguing in any way. Smooth with no strong aftertaste, so it is certainly drinkable. I just don't think it's has a memorable taste, and I agree with argock that it doesn't leave that sticky coating in your mouth that many good IPAs do. If you like big, complex beers like I do, take or leave it, but I'm thinking if you like Anchor Steam Pale Ale or their IPA, this is a good beer for you.

The pour produced a clean, clear, medium copper-colored bier, with a creamy, albeit short, head. The foam was white, with a fine bead, and left nice lacework.
Aroma was a full, fairly strong whiff of Cascades (or a reasonable facsimile thereof!).
Body was a respectable medium, and the "feel" was just a bit prickly on the tongue. Nothing to make it less than "good", though.
Flavor started with a mild maltiness, slightly toasty, just enough to keep things honest. Then the flavor went into hop overdrive, with a great grapefruity hop essence. The hop flavor really sticks in the throat, giving a super, longlasting rich aftertaste!
A tasty rendition of an IPA. One to savor and enjoy!

Presentation: Cask Conditioned served at about 60*F.

Appearance: Tawny copperish golden with some haze. Head is an off white creamy looking lace.

Smell: Esters, fruit and a slight bourbon aroma hit the nose. A citrus hop is also evident.

Taste: Rich smooth malt, with almost some honey qualities in the sweetness, then the sumptuous rind citrus hop flavours make an appearance. The after taste is of more hop and a pronounced bourbon whiskey flavour.

Notes: Very complex and Oh so good! This IPA comes from the same batch as the IPA on tap but when conditioned for 7-10 days bourbon chip are added for a twist.

A nice middle of the road IPA. Hazy amber color, thick white head. Decent amount of lacing. Mostly citrus aroma, although there was also a sweet, floral hint. More of a grapefruit taste than anything else. Probably a bit of pine. Could not appreciate much malt. Mouthfeel was mostly the hops. Pretty good beer.

Voluptuous mouth feel with in a medium body, huge grapefruit hop presence that throws faint piney and citric flavours all over the place. Juicy mild of more hops and a touch of toasty caramel malt flavour. This is a down right kick ass IPA and one I’ll always go back to.

Clear, with a burnt amber appearance. Thin, yet clingy white head. Nice mixture of hop styles in the nose: citrus/grassy/grapefuit. Flavor seemed more like an ESB to me initially. Buildup of caramel flavor in the middle reduces the brashness to a respectable level. Finish is crisp and dry with a long-lasting bitterness on the palate. A solid AIPA that I'd have no problems returning to when in Beantown.

Had this on cask at the Canal St location. I started off with one on draught before moving on to the cask. The difference between the two is amazing, the cask is super smooth with a creamy texture and more cloudy an head to match. The taste is less bitter and the creaminess comes through on the palate. Beerworks has always been a favorite visit for me as they have plenty of seating, good food, better than average beer, and good service and one of the most important factors for me which is family friendly as getting out without the kids is very rare.

Review from notes. Had on tap at BBW at Fenway.

A: The beer was a clear light copper/amber color with a ene finger, slightly off-white color, with decent retention and minimal lacing.

S: Rather floral and grassy with some citrus mixed in. A little bit of light grainy malt and some caramel malt round it out.

T: There is a nice citrus flavor up front with some lemon and a bit of grapefruit leading to a little bit of caramel malt, slightly doughy too. Has a slightly bitter finish.

M: Maybe a touch thin, it does not have a sticky/dry finish that I get out of most IPAs. Moderate carbonation.

O: A decent IPA, would have liked it a bit bolder. Look forward to going back and sampling some of the other offerings at BBW.

Pours a clear golden orange with a large white foamy head. The smell is mild hops, not too overpowering, citrus fruit. The taste is like an English IPA,more mild than your typical American version, but very good, Creamy citrus flavors dominate this beer making this a must try. The m/f is light with all flavors mixing well making this a session/like IPA.

A - Back Bay IPA pours a nice copper color with a small white head. Very nice lacing is left along the glass as the beer is enjoyed.

S - Smell is mostly made up if the citrus and pine aromas you would expect from an IPA. A bit of the malt backbone is also noticeable in the nose.

T - The hops up front make for a really nice flavor. The malt balances it out very nice. Crisp finish with a nice hop bitterness.

M - Medium body with carbonation on the lower side. Very smooth throughout.

D - If I had more time I would have ordered another one of these for sure. Really solid offering all around.

I liked this. Good bite, plenty of hops to earn it it's "IPA" name. Very little malt taste. This beer probably went the best with the food, complimenting every thing I ate. Not overly carbonated, not complex, down to earth. A good beer to drink all night.

12 oz can poured into a shaker pint.

A - kind of a nice gold color. White head. Good retention and lacing.

N - piney hops. A little citrus.

T - hop front. More resiny than anything else. Tiny biscuit notes.

M - fine

O - surprisingly good. Cheers.

Nice copper appearance with minimal head, but very nice lacing. Smell was mild...citrus hop presence..I wasa expecting more. Taste had a hop presence throughout, with a nice hop finish. Once again, I was expecting more. Defintely not Hop Devil! Mouthfeel was light and slighlty dry..very pleasant. Drinkability is a bove average...it was very smooth and slightly dry. A good IPA, but there are better.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on June 3, 2014.

It pours a cloudy orange amber with a lingering off-white head. Some lacing.

The aroma seems very weak to me. I get virtually no hops...not even the subtly of hops with the caramel malts. This is getting a World Class rating? I must have a bad bottle.

Medium body.

The hops pick up a bit in the taste and balance it out the pale malts reasonably well but nothing overdoes anything else. Easy to drink but it seemed to be missing something.

on tap at fenway beerworks. poured an amber-orange with a small off-white head that left a thin lacing. sparse, tiny bubbles meandered up from the bottom of the glass. citrus and sour apple aromas. light carbonation and medium body led to a pleasant mouthfeel. taste is a really nice balance of floral hop, citrus and a touch of malt. overall, a very refreshing session brew that begs to be drunk all night.

On-tap at the Beer Works at Logan Airport in Boston (C Terminal).

Clear honey tinted amber hue with a thin white head that settles to a rim along the glass. Light and biscuity, with some strong orange and lemon citrus. Very sharp aroma. There is strong grapefruit in the flavor which lingers for a long time. Seems to mimic the grapefruit very well. Full bodied. The malts are in the background for the most part, don't do very much for the aroma or flavor. A decent AIPA.

Cask conditioned : Copper pour, with a small but creamy white head, leaving lace all the way down. Pretty much all hops in this brew - Hops on the nose, hops on the tongue, and hop bitterness sticking around afterwards. Not much malt to be found through all the hops...but that isn't a bad thing in my eyes.

Pours a slightly hazy light orange/amber color with a decent sized head, leaves some lacing along the glass.

Smell is adequately hoppy for an IPA but has some malt backing to mellow things, nothing extraordinary but more than enough to please.

Taste has a good citrus/hop kick but fades fast in the mouth, decent bitterness, easy to drink and is a solid beer in Beer Works regular line-up.

Slightly hazy copper color with a thick cream head. Not much lace until late in the beer, then it has a thick sheet in the glass. Mild hop flower aroma, and just a hint of citrus. Great bitterness up front in the taste. More hop flowers and pine in the comes through in the finish. Nice smooth rich mouth feel. Decent drinkability. I’ve had this beer on tap before. The cask really adds richness and brings out the hops. It’s a nice beer.

This was one of the smoothest IPA's I've ever put my lips on. Poured a nice golden brown with generous sticky head. After having the Double Pale I expected an onslaught of hop, but was left pleasantly surprised to find a more mellow citrus/floral blend. Outstanding in terms of refreshment and smoothness. It was hard to keep this brew on the tongue. I highly recommend.

On-tap @ BBW (Garden) - into pint glass.

Solid head with very good lacing.

Very nice floral hops aroma with some malty texture.

Well-balanced taste with decent amount of both hops and malt; alcohol is there but not center stage.

Feels a little chewy on the mouth - slightly heavy but not overpowering.

More of a traditional IPA than an American style IPA but good for a session offering. Solid effort.

A- Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Slightly hazy light orange color to the body and a foamy white cap atop the beer. Frothy head reaches about one finger in height and retains decently. Lacing is nice with a few clouds of webbed foam.

S- Citrus zest and a bit of pine but not as much hop influence in the aroma as I would expect. A decent amount of caramel, yeast bread and apple hints as well.

T- A blend of citrus rind (bitter orange), flowery and pine hops lead the way with some herbal and earthy undertones. As with the nose, a decent amount of caramel and yeast flavors back up the hops.

MF- An overly foamy body with massive carbonation stinging the palate. Must be some active yeast in the bottle or something, not infected though. Moderate bitterness in the finish.

Nothing much wrong here but it doesn't jump out from a ton of other IPAs I have had. The body is a bit foamy for me and takes away from the experience but it is decent nonetheless.

Had this on tap at the Canal Street location. Pours a clear, beautiful chestnut color with a dense tan head. Aroma of citrusy hops meets the nose. Taste is delicious with an ample onslaught of citrusy hops balanced nicely by a solid malt backbone. Very tasty and very easy to drink a few of these. Excellent brew.
