This brew was my favorite of all of the beers on-tap on 10/20/11. The perfect beer for the season and I was happy to see this style in the Witch city!

A classic look, heady amber with some gold, robust and full of life.

The aroma is classic musty/ bready fest lager yeast with enough malt to make it true. Fresh earthy, musty hops down deep.

A very clean version with nice complexity. The malt is caramel/bready and crispy with a complex lager yeast, sour, earthy and green veggie effect, smokey, almost meaty flavor and dry earthy hops really balances this one out right.

The feel is obviously fresh and lively, medium-smooth sensation going down. slightly slick from the malt but not enough to make in cloying.

Quality Festy lager!

Received an orange-amber beer. No real head. No lace.

Some decent rich malt aromas, with some caramel-suger notes in the nose.

Lean in intensity, but still flavorful, this beer has all of the characteristics that are common to the style, just really thinned down. Nice malty flavor, which leads to some moderate bitterness and then dries out. Some light fruit was there, but disappears in an instant. Nice structure, but needs some intensity.

Medium bodied. Decent carbonation. Not watery.

Decent, and I'd have a pint again. A little disappointing.

Had on tap @Hingham...served into a pint glass

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, orange-brown in color, clear, low carbonation

Smell: toasted malt—not much else going on here

Taste: bread, toasted malt, and a big dose of caramel at the end.

Mouthfeel: sweet, moderate carbonation, medium bodied

Overall: It is not often that I say BeerWorks makes a fairly common style really well. However, this one is right up there with the best of them. A bit on the sweet side, but still plenty of bread and caramel goodness. If I wanted an easy to get Marzen on tap, this is certainly worth a drive.

$5.50 for a 16oz pour @ Beerworks Canal St. Missed my train...again.

Burnt orange with a thin white head. Wispy retention and walking giraffe leg lacing.

Aroma is toasted malt with ample hop presence. Smells like a big, malty sonovagun.

Oktoberfest Lager is, in fact, a big, malty sonovagun. Agressive herbal bitter balances out the toasty sweetness. Very crusty.

Beerworks had a sign up above the bar that read "Beerworks beer ist very, very gut." Not true of most of their beers but in this case yes, it's very good.

Served on tap at the Lowell Beer works.

Pours darker amber with just touches of foam. All malt smell, and taste. Sweetness prevails, but all very light and easy to drink.

Soft finish, clean, with very little hop.

An easy one to celebrate October with.

On-tap at Beer Works Fenway

A: The pour is amber in color with a white head.

S: Toasted malt and toffee aromas to start things off. There are some earthy and floral hop aromas as well as plenty of bread. Though overall, it's not really all that aromatic.

T: The flavor starts off with lots of sweet malt, bread, and toffee. There are also plenty of earthy hop flavors. It's sort of bitter for an Oktoberfest, unfortunately. It's also lightly watery.

M: The body is light with medium carbonation.

O: Sort of odd flavors/bitterness for an Oktoberfest. A bit watery, too.

Man...I find myself at the beer works often. I chalk it up to the Red Sox being in the play-offs and me liking all the TV's.

Ordered a pint of the oktoberfest. Came presented with a weak thin head.

Smell was lacking, gritty malt, faint hop.

Color was standard, a dark orange.

A sip revealed what all the other senses had set me up for....a mediocre brew. It had an odd hop bite and strange malt profile leading to the swallow being very difficult. Another sip did not change my mind. Mouthfeel was grainy, thick, and overall not pleasant.

This pint was left half-full or in the case of the beer...half-empty

Pours a deep reddish amber with a vigorous frothy head and good retention. Lacing is minimal but the beer maintains a good carbonation level throughout.

Smell is of toasted malts and some hops, maybe Saaz? which caught be a bit off guard given my experience with Oktoberfest brews. Perhaps this is more true to style actually. With the head gone and a clear surface I pick up some rather unusual and unique hop notes. My curiosity kept me sniffing around though I wasn't too sure I liked what I was sniffing.

Taste is good, moderately malty and offers a smooth amber finish with a quick close. Decent carbonation provides a good body for the beer. Feel and Drink are average.

Served as a medium amber colored beer with modest slightly off-white head.
Smell has some slight notes of caranel, but is very restrained.
Taste has a nice caramel taste, with some some fruity maltiness also present.
Finishes with more sweet malt, but little taste retention.
A very modest Octoberfest, with a nice drinkabilty profile.

Poured a nice deep brick red. I remember seeing this except same color in a few other Beer Works brews. No real head and any lace runs back down into the glass with each sip. Nose was lsightly toasted malts and hops were trying hard to peek out. The malts in the flavor came out as strong toasted biscuits. There are also hints of spices at the back end. Nice dry and crisp finish, but still has the Beer Works customary watery feeling--however, it is much more minimal in this brew than some others.

I like this brewery. Everything I get here seems to be real solid, and this was no exception. Exemplifies the style with out being boring. Nice deep amber color, a litte red for and Ofest. Smell has that distinct sweet nutty malt profile with some honey and caramel thrown in. Also, there's an unusual hoppiness in the nose for this style. The taste reflects this complexity; nice and malty backbone, sweet and nutty, buttery, with a nice pine hop finish. Nice bitter kick you usually don't get from Octoberfests. Smooth medium bodied texture and fun to drink. Definately a winner.

I’ll give these guys props. This is a real Oktoberfest (Marzen), not an Autumn ale disguised as a lager. It poured a clear amber color with a full rich head, and a mild lace. The nose was dominated by roasted malts, with a mild hop balance. The taste is the malt. Mild hop bite in the middle with a crisp mouth feel. Again this was a true lager and was very drinkable

On tap at Stammtisch.
The beer is an ochre cinnamon color, topped with a light mist of head. Some blobs of lace, with some carbonation bubbles rising slowly to the top.
Aroma is malty and marzen-like, with solid caramunich malt presence. A touch grainly, with light grassy hops. Authentic, with a light american twist.
Flavor is very malty, with pronounced toasty caramel flavor. A touch of pear fruitiness, with an appley flavor mingling with the caramel. A light spicy hoppiness in the finish. Well carbonated, with a medium body. Very tasty.

Deep, rich copper-brown color, fine head that fades fast.Had a rich, smooth medium body. Sweet malty nose. Fine, lacy head that fades fast. Malty, but green flavor; somewhat wheaty/rye tasting. Had a bit of a dry hop finish. Very drinkable!

Quaffed on tap at the Fenway location, with Todd, Alewife, and JohnnyP (aka Sloganmeister). Too bad they use a pilsner-style glass for it. Poured an attractive medium copper color, with a fine, creamy tan head. Nice lacing down the glass, too. Nose had a good maltiness, but way too mild. Real nice mouthfeel; medium-plus body, and nicely smooth over the tongue. Enjoyed the toasty, smooth malt flavors throughout, though with a slight bitter finish to it. Quite enjoyable!! Zum Wohl!!!!

A dark amber beer with copper hues. Nicely poured two-finger head with a constant off-white lace all the way to the bottom of the glass.

Esters, fresh grain in the aroma.

Big, juicy, meaty and malty. Loads of raisin and plum in the flavour with an alcohol / hop spice combo with a bitterness that is a bit rough around the edges. Some thin herbal flavours. Esters, warming alcohol. Lingering malt and esters in the finish.

Oh yeah, this is one of those great beers that let's us know that Fall is just around the corner. I'm ready.
