Had on tap at Hingham location.

Appearance: moderate carbonation, 1/2 inch head, clear, dark brown in color

Smell: roasted malt and coffee

Taste:roasted malt, toffee, and coffee

Mouthfeel: sweet with slight roasty bitterness, light body, moderate carbonation

Overall: Like a Guinness light with more caramel is the best way to describe this. Clean, not bad, but nothing that I will need to reach for again either.

Modest, bar poured head. It does leave some stringy lace. Deep brown but light passes through it easily.

Lots of chocolate/caramel aroma. Quite powerful for a bar pour.

The taste is lightly sweet with a mildly caramelized sugar aspect. Thin bodies and spritzy. The aftertaste is surprisingly bitter. Surprising because I didn't detect the hop until after the swallow. That makes this an unusual brew for me.

I think this is one of the better examples of a dark ale.

A: Dark red-brown in color. It almost seems purple, but that could be the lighting. The head is beige.

S: Malty, slight molasses flavor.

T: More malt and molasses, but the flavors are fairly weak. It could use more hops.

M: Overly carbonated.

D: Light, and not too flavorful.

Had on 3/11/11.

With a beer menu that already includes 3 different Irish Dry Stouts, I'm not sure why they chose to brew this beer.

Pours a dark reddish-brown color with a small brown head. It's dark but not in the sense of a stout.

A bit of smoked malt followed by roasted coffee/caramel in the nose.

Stout-like flavors confuse the palate. It's lighter-bodied and the smokiness sets it apart a bit.

Again, not as thick as a stout. Sure as hell confuses the palate though!

Like an un-stout for people who want flavor without the body? Decent at best.
