There is always a long wait for a table, but you can go to the bar and stand in a long line to get a beer...but at least you can try a couple of beers before you get seated. Just know this going in, because a wait in excess of an hour is not uncommon.

The quality of the beer is great. Food get's it done, but let's face it you go here for the beer, and eat the food. The service is friendly, and very good...they use a team approach, and you'll never be staring at empty plates or empty glasses, and your food comes fast.

The beer selection is whatever they have in stock, that they have brewed...you won't find a crappy adjunct lager in this joint. The variety on tap is sufficient to please just about anybody that visits...unless they don't like beer.

Overall a good place to catch some good food and good beer.

Atmosphere: good brewery atmosphere. Looks like they have lots of cool hop plants when it's not covered in snow. Nice big open layout. Shuffleboard. Good view of the brewing area.

Quality: I tried probably 4 or so of there beers some were great and some were good. No real duds that I found. Nothing to complain about

Service: good service and growler fillers. Never found myself neglect or overly served

Selection: good large variety. Lots of barrel aged beers right now. Good choice of styles lots of good options. You can get anything in anysize for there or to go.

Overall: great beer great prices and a good place to hang out. Id recommend it for anyone who is in the area. surely will be looking for their beer now. One of the must visits in the Grand Rapids area

I had the Pale Ale at Smokeys bar in Hubbard Lake. It was the worst pale ale I have ever had on tap. The person next to me could not choke his down. The bar maids did not even know what city it was made in. They could only tell me Michigan, and claimed that nobody in the bar knew. We picked up a little table ad and saw the name, which wasn't even on the tap handle. It was almost like they were hiding their location because the table ad didn't say where it was from. Somebody suggested HELL, and I said probably because according to the song, "In heaven there is no beer."

I stopped in with a buddy on our way to Grand Rapids. The place was very cool, the decor was very new and well put together. It was nice to see the full brewery through the window in the tap room. I had a Kona Brown which was real good and my buddy had 3 3oz tasters. We also split an order of homemade potato chips. The chips were good but you could tell they had been made hours before. It would have been nice if they came out a little fresher. All in all it was fun and I would defiantly go back if passing through the area.

A large facility, with a large brewing area, especially considering it has only been open for about 1 year.
It has a u-shaped bar that seats about 5, numerous reg. and high tables inside, plus a covered outside patio. There also appears to be an upper level, not open at the moment for additional seating. The brewery itself is visible thru glass from most indoor seats, Not to mention the 3 tanks directly behind the bar.
With all this space and seating, hey are well equipped for larger social or corporate functions.

Very good and varied food menu. Based on the dishes and sides I've had, their food is quite good; notably better than a typical pub, for instance.

A rather large selection of beers for a brewery with 19 on tap during my visit. Good variety too, and options to purchased in 4 oz samplers as well as 12 oz., 16 oz., and larger sizes. They sell and fill growlers.

Good prices, with excellent prices on their specials.

We went for the beer, and in that respect we were not disappointed. The Peace out Stout had good body, nice aroma and good smooth, not too heavy taste. The Sleeeping Bear beer (a wheat beer) was also very tasty. But ....that was the good part. I had a classic Reuben which was ok, but that is all, it was not a deli quality corned beef. The service unfortunately was worse. We didn't get a waiter for 17 minutes and he was ok for the rest of the time until we needed the bill, which took 21 minutes after my last sip of beer. I don' t know if they were short handed that day (5 pm) and would not want to say this is typical. Yet there is some room for improvement if they want people to come for more than the beer. The place was also rather loud, but that didn't bother me.

I have been to the Perrin brewery/brewpub 3 times, all of which have been stellar overall. I did show up there once with my fiancee on a Saturday and it was insanely busy and they don't keep a list, so it's just a bunch of lurchers staring people down for a seat. We ended up leaving that night because we were hungry, so if possible I'd try to hit it at a down time or before the big rush. Place is always clean with large windows to see into brewery area. Beer has always been top notch. Their samplers are huge (up to 9) allowing you to try most everything. So far I've had Auburn Wheat, Dark Knight Lager, DIPA, Extra Blonde, Extra Pale, I2D2, Imperial Stout, IPA, Kona Brown, Nut Brown, Pale, Porter, Raspberry Blonde, Rogue Rye, Strong Pale, and Two Faced and out of all of them there's not a dud in the group, including the blonde which is not a favorite style of mine or my fiancee. I'm not usually into fruit beers, but the Raspberry Blonde is absolutely delicious. Food has been great every time. Overall, one of our favorite places in Michigan!

This is one of 3 breweries that are in very close proximity to me and it has become my primary. It has good prices on a diverse selection of beers from the light to somewhat heavier. I really enjoyed the Chocolate Milk Stout, I2D2 IPA, and their Xtra Pale all of them were affordable. All their beers have a good abv for the location a little more out of the way, and kind of rural. The food is great, a few notches above standard bar food for sure. The Bumpkin Burger, The Pacifist, and even the PBC Chili dog are all worth trying at a good price. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable; the feel is similar to Founders but a little more laid back in my opinion. Worth a visit when you come to Grand Rapids.

Visited Perrin while in Grand Rapids on a beer-centric road trip. This place wasn't even on my radar, but it was highly recommended by a few people that my wife and I talked with while sitting at the bar at Founders.

We got there about 45 minutes after opening on a Saturday and the place was pretty empty. It's a good sized place with plenty of tables, but I was a little surprised that the bar wasn't bigger. We sat at the bar and the bartender came over immediately to get our order. We both opted for the IPA, and it was damn good. The turkey club was decent, but the onion rings were AMAZING, but I do wish the portion was bigger.

Overall, the place is kinda far out from downtown Grand Rapids, but I'd say it's worth checking out. I would go back again.

Comparisons will be drawn between Founders and Perrin, that is inevitable. Both strive for a garage type atmosphere. In addition, Perrin's head brewer is a Founder's alum, so there are bound to be some similarities in the beer profiles. That being said, Perrin is definitely a great place to stop in for a beer, and brewery to watch. On busy nights and weekends service can be somewhat slow, but for the most part you can expect to receive beers pretty quick and food within 5-10 minutes of placing your order. Their hummus, onion rings, and burgers are all great. I'm looking forward to exploring more options over the next few months. For a fairly new operation they have had no issues with "growing pains" with their beer. All of their brews have been excellent right out of the gate. Like another local brewery their taproom has a nice mix of staples (pale ale, IPA, stout, etc.) and rotating taps. I enjoy the fact that Perrin takes a more balanced approach to their beers. There is a time and place for every flavor, but not every beer needs to be hopped to high heaven or taste like a coffee/chocolate bomb. You can enjoy several brews at Perrin without having your palate destroyed. I will go out on a limb and say that their pale ale is by far the best in the state. It has an incredible nose and a nice, hoppy, citrusy bite to it. It really tows the line of an IPA, but man is it delicious. If you are in GR, you definitely need to give Perrin a shot. I look forward to when they start their canning operation, so I can have some on hand in my fridge. Cheers!
