A carefully crafted intercontinental blend of hops helps us take traditional IPAs to the next level with Urban IPA. If you're bored with soulless IPAs drunk by farmers in wellies, it's time to go URBAN.

Served on cask at the Great Welsh Beer Festival 2012.

Pours a golden amber colour.

Smells fairly hoppy but not too strong.

Tastes fruity and well balanced with a hint of citrus hops to round it off with a quite dry and bitter finish.

Overall a nicely balanced and refreshing IPA.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2014. Picked up recently from Trembling Madness in York. Glad to see Tiny Rebel finally arrive on the shelves - I'm expecting a hop sensation.

Poured into a Delirium chalice. A bright orange-amber hue with good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. Some lacing. Aroma of intensely fruity hops with notes of pine resin, grapefruit, peel and citrus. This is underpinned by mild caramel malt, a touch of grain and faint earthy yeast. Hops galore!

Tastes of concentrated aromatic hops with an intense bitter finish. Notes of resinous pine, grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, mild caramel malt, faint earthy yeast and stewed hops. Highly attenuated, with a lingering, stentorian bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly, dry and mildly spicy; the hop oils tantalise the tongue. Pleasant carbonation and good body for the style. Vehemently astringent - dries the palate. Aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, pine and faint malt.

Impressive - this IPA packs a punch. Tons of hop aroma and flavour; dominated by pine but plenty of citrus notes in evidence as well. Perhaps a tad unbalanced, as the malt lurks virtually out of sight. Nice body. I was expecting it to be bottle-conditioned, which it doesn't seem to be, but I can't help thinking this would have rounded it out a bit more. Still, a class effort with plenty of character. A hop-head's delight; well worth sampling if you come across it.

Keg half-pint in Ye Old Fighting Cocks, Oakengates on 17th July 2013.

Deep amber too reddy brown in colour with an off-white covering on top.

Highly carbonated it gave off an aroma of mixed fruits and semi-sweet malts, the taste followed that trend. Refreshing and crisp in it's flavours, made a pleasant change to the cask offerings I'd been drinking earlier.

5.5%. Good head, pours well. Nice amber colour. Lovely citrus smell.Light and inviting aroma. Refreshing, not to sweet fresh citrus taste. Medium/light dryness. Quite bitter but not astringent at all. Virtually no alcohol.

Good beer. Wouldn't stand out in a line up but very enjoyable.

A - golden, white head good retention leaving sticky lacing. Slowly dissipates to small head and lasts through

S - first fuggles and then comes the American hops, citrus, pine

T - almost sweet citrus, leaving a piney bitter aftertaste

M - smooth, good carbonation for a cask. Goes down very well.

Pale amber with rimming off white froth that rings and speckles.
Caramel but also deep tropical fruit and orange hard candy hops on the nose.
Danish and orange marmalade then resiny, grassy, Seville orange hops.
Lime finish and nettle linger.
Medium, chewy, round.

I heard this was like SNPA, only better, but it drinks way too heavy for an APA. Then I thought it might line up against Punk (same strength) but it's still not as bright or refreshing. Aroma hops grow as it goes, but still not getting 60 IBUs or much in the way of noble hops.

An odd duck.

2nd tasting: Honey nose with marmalade underneath, crystal cuts very lean, touch of wood spice + oily orange hops.

Hop character and strength means this is probably actually meant to line up in the Bengal Lancer/White Shield mould of "traditional" English IPAs (though how is it then "intercontinental?"). But it's too crisp, chalky and ultimately harsh for that.

In the end, falls between two stools.

330ml bottle poured into a Troubadour tulip glass

Look: Dark gold, almost coppery pour. Couple of fingers of white head which leaves some lacing behind.

Smell. Very, very fruity right out of the gate - orange and lemon dominate, with hops and pine resin buried deep in the background until the beer has warmed up a bit and they start to come further forward. Make no mistake, it smells absolutely fantastic.

Taste: Tastes as good as it smells - first you get a wash of juicy citrus flavours followed by the lovely, resinous taste of the hops in the finish. Not much in the way of malt/yeast flavours that I could make out, but the transition from citrus to hops is absolutely fantastic.

Feel: Like a lot of IPAs, some might find it quite 'dry' - the initial fruitiness makes it feel quite full but that soon gives way to a long, dry and astringent finish. A decent level of carbonation but really this is far too good to just chug down.

Overall: I feel that I'm getting the hang of IPAs now, and this is one of the best I've had to date - there's a nice balance between fruit and hop flavours. Some might find the hoppiness a bit aggressive, certainly moreso than more 'traditional' British IPAs, but it's definitely worth a punt even in the crowded arena of American and 'American-style' IPAs.

Been having a few of these guys offerings of late from tap to bottle and this bottled IPA pours a hazy light amber hue with a creamy three finger head and lacing everywhere, the smell is fruit salad, boiled candy and paw paw,the mouthfeel is medium bodied,a touch creamy and well carbonated with tastes of piney resinous hops, boiled candy and finished with a light fruity bitterness and overall it starts off with promise but it doesn't finish off and I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon cheers.
