Dark mahogany body with a soapy beige head. Aromas of smoke, funk, cinnamon, barrel. Odd flavor. Ride fruits, plum, wine. Moderate alcohol presence. Decent.

a smoky scotch ale, soured, and aged in mcallan 30 (i think) barrels for some time, pretty cool idea, and wonderful execution. i like this as much as any paradox beer i can recall. dark to medium indian red brown in color, with an airy off white head with okay retention. it smells smoky as heck, rich and woody and earthy and still burning, very wintery, spot on. grain driven beer more complex than just the smoke malt, some wheat maybe, and definitely some red or copper malt. the alcohol shows through a little in the nose, but not so much at all in the taste. the quality of the single malt is evident, peaty and intense, woody and mature. the sourness is the weird part, and if they stopped this one without making it wild, i think it would also be a stunning beer, but that acidic hit and briney tang is out of place, strange on my palate at first, especially with the smoke, but by my second sip i am used to it, and by my third i am borderline in love with it. amazing how fast this grew on me. the lemony lacto cuts the smoke, lightens the beer, and pulls neat textures from the grain and from the oak barrel. this is unlike any other beer on the market, and i like it a lot. i need to get my hands on some more of this. one of the best from paradox, no doubt about that. great use of a cool and rare barrel.

There is a distinct change from the mildly sour front to the smoky finish, but both halves are outstanding, and like the bottle says, would pair perfectly with a cigar.

A: Ruddy brown. Poured a thin tan head that dissipated quickly to a broken skim. No lacing.
S: Subdued sour aroma. Scotch come through strong, but not overpowering. Mellow wet wood in the background.
T: Fairly strong and building sour with sweet lingering flavor. Scotch and wood come through in the middle. Cornucopia of flavors slowly dissipate in the finish. ABV well hidden.
M: Very thin. Moderate carbonation. Slightly warming but less than the ABV indicates.
O: Surprisingly drinkable. Scotch barrels mellow the finish nicely.
