Hazy dark orange body with nary a head. Stone fruit aroma with abundant funk character. Light acetic note. Medium body with low carbonation. Tangy. Tasty.

Light-medium brown color. Small (but present) head. Sharp smell with piney hops and lots of licorice, oak/vanilla. Strong bitterness competes with puckering sourness in the taste. Bitterness, perhaps, wins out, but the sourness makes it tolerable. Some floral notes and a strong peach flavor (only apparent after a few sips) add to the complexity. I would classify it as a sour, extra-hoppy barleywine... quite a departure from a typical sour beer. I actually started this review thinking that I would not rate it too positively, but the beer grows on you after drinking it for a little while. Actually quite pleasant, and unquestionably complex.

Bottle share from Rich. Sourish, but astringent ale nature. Extreme vinous aroma. Dark copper pour, mild citrus aroma. Tart, but not fruity. Getting the hang of these sour beers.

Released 3/2015. Bottle No. 015 of 1920. 2015 AM-OAK 020615.

Pours a murky dark copper with a foamy khaki head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with citrus fruit, tropical fruit, passionfruit juice, white wine, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour citrus zest, tropical fruit, white wine, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with fantastic citrus and tropical fruit aromas, but the flavors just aren't as good in my opinion.

Serving type: bottle.

Rich hazy dark orange with epic webs of beige lace. 4.25
Deep spiced honey, giant dried orange rind, and cider vinegar on the nose - never smelled anything like it. 4.75
Apple esters, some spice, a whack of acetic, a thread of oaky vanilla, then lots of mellow stewed orange. 4.5
Grapefruit spritzer end and bright lively herbal linger.
Medium, dry but Lacto- creamy, with slight cling. 4.25

Falconer's flight dry hopped sour ale aged in oak wine barrels

Apple pie! A la mode! Apple esters + orange hops + vanilla oak + spicy phenols = super yummy. If this was pitched as a concept beer, I’d go for it hook, line, and sinker. The blend of wild yeasts is not too Bretty (and Lacto- does lovely things for the body), and Simcoe passionfruit and Sorachi lemon peak through for even more flavor surprises. Endlessly complex but hugely pleasant.

An absolute grand slam. 4.5
