Notes/Commercial Description:
1888 was a bad year for London. Tiddlywinks was invented and Jack the Ripper went fulltime. We don’t know who Jack was, but there’s a good chance he enjoyed porter, the official beer of all who did London’s dirty work. With notes of roasted malts and a rich, creamy finish, ours is so dark you could lose a wanted man in it. A fitting tribute to the world’s reigning hide-and-seek champion.

500 ml bottle from New World in Auckland; BB October 2014

Pours clear, very dark mahogany with a small light brown head; decent lacing

Feel: medium body; tingly carbonation seems a tiny bit too high.

Aroma: sweet caramel malts and dark roasted grains with dark fruit overtones.

Flavor: moderately strong but appropriate for style. Mainly dark roasted malts with a good bit of coffee and a clear hint of spicy hops.

O: a very enjoyable London Porter worth seeking out.

Poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance – Pours black. Large-bubbled, malty-brown colored head. Low retention.

Aroma – Not much I can detect, slightly sweet.

Flavor – Coffee, roasted malts. Caramel. Hints of spicy hops. Very drinkable for how dark it is. Smooth, but with a hops finish.
