12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass Best by date is 4/29/14

A: Golden body with a 2 finger white head. Medium lacing and low retention.

S: Huge grapefruit scents as can be expected. Some citrus hops as well floral scents.

T: Follows the nose. along with some bitterness.

M: Juicy beer light body, no alcohol burn. This would make a kick ass summer session IPA.

O: This beer is a prime example of truth in advertising. everything about it is like eating a grapefruit. It sucks that this is limited. Im going to try to hunt some down before its all gone. If you see this pick it up.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Hazy amber peach color. Head is white and recedes to a wispy film. Foamy lines of world map lacing.

Aroma: Grapefruit juice and citrus rinds.

Taste: Subtle malt body, citrus rind, and grapefruit finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Overall: A very one-dimensional IPA but they got the grapefruit part perfect as it doesn't overpower anything. There's not a lot else to ponder in the taste profile, however. But probably one of Abita's better brews to me.

12oz bottle poured into a Dogfish Head IPA glass.

A: brassy golden color with brilliant clarity. Persistent pillowy white head. Lacing is very sticky and clumpy.

S: Freshly zested grapefruit is the dominant aroma, with underlying scents of fragrant line needles and lightly toasted and crackery malts.

T: Bitter ruby red grapefruit juice is the dominant flavor throughout. Piney hops ride up to meet it, but then fall away as a grainy and toasty malt base pokes through briefly. Bitter grapefruit finish.

M: Medium body. Perhaps a touch watery. Moderate carbonation scrubs a little, but really doesn't do much to help.

O: More grapefruit than IPA, when it should probably be the other way around. It feels a little too simple. Drinkable but forgettable.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25

Appearance: Expected some haze given this is a fruit beer, but it has good clarity, holds a bright white head of foam.

Smell: Grapefruit. Nice, just as it should be. Overpowers most other beer flavors, but it smells great!

Taste: Again, grapefruit, juicy, bit of peel, the base beer is pretty bland, not a lot of hop punch but a lot of bitterness from the grapefruit makes it a good package.

Mouthfeel: Light body, good carbonation level didn't go fizzy. A little more heft here would have helped, again, a light base beer.

Overall: Very happy I got the 6 pack, will be enjoying.

12 ounce bottle, Best Before dating of 05/26/14.

Pours lightly hazed and dull looking golden. Larger eggshell head, that staying nicely, before collapsing to a thick froth along with some slippery low sheeting and larger bubble strands of lacing.

Pure grapefruit nose.

More grapefruit on the palate, citric and hoppy from start to finish. Hops privide a nice snap of flavor, making this one tasty, zesty and flavorful. In general the Abita brews tend to do nothing for me, but this one is better then the others. If you like grapefruit juice, grapefruit pith and grapefruit notes in your IPA, you likely will be a fan of this one.

Abita - 4th beer reviewed. Again 4th place in its class. Every time I try Abita I taste lime and corn chips, some unique flavor from cajun gulf that makes me feel I should be eatin Cajun or Mexican.

Not only am I off Abita, I am off fruit flavored IPAs. This one feels authentic, but since hops can impart such lovely, lively dreamy rind flavors to a brew, why add Grapefruit juice?

Neg Abita, Neg Fruit Flavored IPAs (and most beers other than pumpkin).
Happily will trade this one away.

Tasted vs Dales Pale Ale as a contrast.

Best By: 05/05/14.

Appearance: Pours a hazed, pale yellow body with an thin finger of dissipating, white foam. No real lacing, especially after a 30 minute span. Flattish.

Smell: Pleasant citrus-scented hops combined with real grapefruit juice, there's a pilsner like light bready backdrop too.

Taste: Under toasted generic english muffin spread with marmalade?
Doughy, bready blend of pale, light malts with grapefruit slightly ahead of Citrusy hops. It's not bad tasting, if it were not thin and flattish. Good finish as with all Abita beers.

Mouthfeel: thin and flattish. Light, low carbonation (and it could be the grapefruit, like lemon, after an initial fizz flattens the brew?)

O: Definite pass, altho fresh, good finish, could be good with Cajun/spicy/indian/thai/mexican - not a hamburger / steak / fish steak/ cheese / or even oyster beer. Maybe some gulf shrimp and crawdaddies.

Overall: A restrained India Pale Ale dosed with some rousing grapefruit fruitiness. I liked it more than I had anticipated.
