On-tap 3/16/2014 at Doherty’s Ale House, in Warwick, RI served in a snifter glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains lager yeast, honey, citrus, caramelized malts and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of lager yeast and a hearty malt character. Then some sweet flavors of caramel, honey and citrus come in. The hops presence is significant but not strong and brings a little bit of balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, slightly filling, strong kick, decent representation of style, it’s a decent beer but it’s over-powered for the style.

On tap at the Bulldog, Jackson, MS

A: A hazy deep orange with an off-white one finger head that slowly dissipates. Thick lacing.

S: Malts and bourbon dominate.

T: Follows nose with a sweet malty presence. Bourbon sneaks in as it warms. A soothing, warming Dubbel that drinks like an English Barleywine.

M: Medium with medium, chewy carbonation.

O: A nice surprise from Abita. I've never been let down by their Select Series. Thick, rich, sweet and malty with a bourbon kick. What's not to like?

A: first pale dopplebock I have ever tried. Pours yellow with no head or carb
S: yeasty banana is the best way I can describe
T: saison ish spice with wheat, brown sugar, banana and a distinct German malt profile
O: bright German beer that was really unique and worth a glass. I personally couldn't do much more but worth a try either way
