Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, grains, some sweetness. Taste is grassy hops, malts, a touch of sweetness at the finish, very refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 10/31/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy bright gold color, with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange peel, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and citrus/earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange peel, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, orange peel, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice complexity and solid robustness of pale malt and citrus/earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean in lager flavors and does not feel watery. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a nice and pleasant German pilsener. All around good balance and solid robustness of pale malt and citrus/earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

I picked this up at The Fridge to bring home and put in my fridge and now I am ready, although Summer is behind us.

From the bottle: “Abita Seersucker Summer Pils is crisp and cool like its namesake. This traditional pilsner has a full-bodied malt flavor and hop bitterness with a light golden color. It is made with pilsner and carapils malts and German Tradition and Spalt hops.”

I Pop!ped the cap and began an agro pour, continuing until the ensuing pseudo-cascade began to form more head than the glass could handle. I sat back and watched as three fingers of French Vanilla-colored head formed a huge cap above the beer and evinced excellent retention. Color was a slightly hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4-5). Nose was lightly grassy with a bready maltiness and my mouth began to water. I remember a time, about a decade ago, when I was so focused on AIPAs and their hops that I would regularly overlook Pilsners, both German and Czech, until my FerMentor opened my eyes. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but close. The taste was very intense in terms of its hops and would probably sit at the upper end of the scale for a German Pils. It had a grassy, lemony tartness, but the malts were more muted than I would expect in the style. Finish was semi-dry and very refreshing. I could easily drink this on a hot Summer day.
