Oooo, helles doppelbock. I wouldn't expect to see myself with a glass of one in June, but this shows that I am willing to go past the "lighter brews in warm months" mentality. Well, its color is said to be light, but not its alcohol. There's 12 ounce to drink, so let's start. On to the beer:
True to style, this beer is a lighter colored one. Looking fools gold in the chalice and topped with a short head which dissipates to a thin white lace. The aroma is very sweet, like white grapes and sparking cider mixed together. A little earthy as well with a kiss of spicy hops.
While overall a sweet beer, it isn't cloying as I feared. It has the flavor of apples and grapes, a solid white cracker base, and a note of vague hops which cut some of the sweet flavor out. Malt bombs are generally thick with the mouthfeel, but this one is on the lighter side with just a few whisper of alcohol being heard.
After being on a barrage of hopped beer, it's a pleasant change to come back to something sweet and malty. Andygator is one of its many useful cures.
