Strawberry Harvest Lager is a wheat beer made with real Louisiana strawberries, picked late in the season when they’re at their sweetest. This brew has earned quite a reputation in a short time, causing the brewery to up their production year after year. When this brew is found, emails and phone calls fly to friends informing them of the store’s location. Strawberry Harvest is a crisp, light lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness.

This beer tastes like its name. Actually should have been called strawberries and cream. While I'm not a fan of fruit beers, this is quite tasty, very light and very smooth. Props to Abita for a decent strawberry brew. (218 characters)

Really has a good taste from the aroma and hints of strawberry, actually seems to have a slight shortcake linger, definitely is a great beer. Draft seems to carry a better flavor profile than the shelf bought. My go to any time I find it on draft. It's not overpowering with fruit flavor a great balance! (305 characters)

I haven't had a strawberry blonde in a while - I used to love them. Color is a nice yellow with tons of carbonation. Smell is extraordinary. Awesome mixture of wheat and strawberry. Fizzy strawberry taste with a bit of wheat behind it. But, it's almost like a wine cooler a female would drink because of the carbonation so I gave it an average "feel" score. (359 characters)

Not bad, kinda muted. I guess I was expecting more zing as with a raspberry, but should have known better. I wouldn't turn this down if it was offered, but don't see myself buying a six pack of it. Picked it up in a mix 6 because I wanted to try it. They hit the mark closer with the Grapefruit IPA offering. Smooth and has it's best flavor as it warms up. Frothy white head that retains an almost one-finger width. Lots of bubbles on the glass. The body is a hazy, orange-golden color.

Smells of real strawberries/strawberry candy.

Taste: grain backbone, but mostly forward strawberry. A little bread. Slightly sweet. A minute hop finish. Bready aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: fluffy, carbonated.

Finishes mostly dry, crisp, and refreshing.

Overall: this is the best fruit-infused beer I have had this far. This is a superior beer for its category, and a very excellent beer overall. (527 characters)

Had this out of a bottle last night at the Cloverleaf as the first beer on their summer PhD list. While I'm not a huge fan of Fruit/Vegetable beers, this was easily manageable and not light enough to feel artificial. Given how low the alcoholic content of this was as well, it was easy to quaff although it hasn't fully warmed up for the season here yet.

The pour was what I expected - golden, fairly cloudy, and with a bubbly white head that quickly settled down. Lots of berries in the nose but not much else in the taste. The malts gave it a good body but the wheat didn't make this feel like a Hefeweizen. Enough carbonation here to keep this fresh and the Ponchatoula strawberries ensured that the flavor didn't feel too juicy or forced as is the case with so many other beers of this type. A slight grassy feel and the vanguard hops gave a little depth to this but from start to finish, this reminded me of something I'd end up having on a hot day.

Session beer? Check? Fruit flavor? Check. Light lager? Check. All that's needed is a lawnmower and radio broadcasting the ballgame and you'd be set. While not necessarily my cup of tea, I'd have this again and would easily prefer it over a mass-market brew. Nice and easygoing and certain to delight anyone who loves a good fruit beer that has a crafted feel to it. Relaxingly fun stuff! (1,345 characters)

Looks good... like a pale golden ale. Smells terrible, like hay and old tap lines. Tastes like any generic ale with no strawberry flavor at all. I may just have a really old six pack. (183 characters)

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass.
Aroma- Has a distinct strawberry aroma with some wheat
Appearance- Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a thick white head.
Taste- You can taste the strawberry, my first thought was that this would be a nice session beer on a hot day. Nice flavor.
Palate- A medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Has a creamy texture.
Overall- A nice beer from Abita, I will drink this again. (428 characters)

LOOK: Poured into 25oz Mug starting down side & finishing with center pour. About a one finger head, white & fizzy which dissipated quickly leaving little to no lacing. Fairly light blonde with a slight caramel shade to it. Lots of suspended particles in the body. Very refreshing appearance.

SMELL: Bright fruity sweet smell with a bit of an nice spring time outdoors aroma present. Slightly hops smell as well.

TASTE: Taste was very fruity, slightly sweet with a nice hint of hops as a finish. Noticeable strawberry flavor up front with a slight hoppiness in the background & a very clean finish. No noticeable flavor of alcohol whatsoever. Bright & refreshing beer that would compliment a warm spring day beautifully.

FEEL: Light on the palate making it an easy to chug beer, but still had enough body to be respectful. Carbonation was not over the top, but was quite noticeable.

OVERALL: I liked this beer & I'm not usually a big fan of flavored beers. I would consider this a situational beer, nice warm spring day or winding down from a strenuous activity would be very refreshing. Considering it's a seasonal beer, that's right on cue & I'll definitely have another one of these in the future.

I hope you enjoyed the review & CHEERS. (1,247 characters)

Tried this on vacation in New Orleans, I found this brew uptown at in oyster bar. One of the best fruit flavored beers that I have ever tried. Very crisp and clean. (164 characters)

Pours a very pale golden color with average head and light lacing. Aroma is of fresh strawberry puree and that's about all you get. Taste was little disappointing, the lager is evident, but the fresh strawberry flavor seems watered down, in fact, the whole beer seems watered down. Mouthfeel is ok, too light and hardly any aftertaste or finish. Not the best, by far, that Abita has done !! (391 characters)

Pours a hazy golden color with quickly fading head. Smells of malts with hints of strawberry. Smooth balanced lager with a mild sweetness from the strawberries coming through at the end. No bitter aftertaste or malt drink weirdness. Light body with light carbonation that is easy to drink. A good summer beer. (312 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass

This is a simple, easy-drinking, and pretty tasty beer. Clean, crisp, and refreshing flavor and mouthfeel. It's neither too sweet nor too watery. I probably wouldn't drink it every day, but it hits the spot when it's 85 degrees and muggy outside. (284 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. When I first smelled this I almost forgot I had a strawberry beer. There is only a faint hint of strawberry but a strong bread yeast smell to it. The taste is where things get better. More of a bold strawberry but again not a huge presence. Suffice it to say I do not find it very sweet. It is a pleasant beer to kick back and drink with non beer friends. I enjoy having one of these for an easy drink on a hot day. I will purchase another 6 pack for such occasions. (514 characters)

No bottle date

Look -Pours a hazy golden yellow with a fluffy and billowy white head with small bubbles. Excellent distribution, good retention. Decent lacing. 4.5 paws.

Smell - Lots of strawberry, mixed with the malt it smells a bit like strawberry yogurt. A touch of lemon and a bit of wheat and just a smidgen on cinnamon and honey. No hops, strawberry yogurt or ice cream is really the dominant aroma. 4.25 paws.

Taste - Lots of strawberry up front, crisp pilsner malt, but an unpleasant finish of an American wheat beer, somewhat astringent and metallic. The strawberry flavor is very nice though, and tastes of strawberries and cream. A touch of lemon and honey and the slightest bit of hops bitterness that lingers The faint cinnamon flavor pops up again for me, almost like a churro (keyword: faint). 3.75 paws.

Feel - Medium bodied, and slightly creamy that compliments the strawberry flavor well. Not much tingle. 4.25 paws.

Overall - A very nice warm weather beer, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The finish was a bit off-putting at first, but the more you drink, the more the strawberry flavors envelops everything. 4.25 paws. (1,167 characters)

Great summer time brew. I was a little iffy on a fruity beer. I've had some before that tasted like a malt liquor. But this was surprisingly great and is now one my favorite summer time Ales. It has a great smell , only hints of strawberry. That carries straight into the taste. Fizzy light feel with little hoppiness in and only hints of strawberry in the taste. Still taste like a beer. Which I love about it. Great seasonal! (427 characters)

This one pours a cloudy pale golden color with just a hint of orange. With a thin short lived head that settles moderately quick with very minimal lacing.

The nose is very strawberry and malt with the hops being almost non-existent. The nose is very fruity and pleasant. Reminds me of spring time.

The taste is a tad dry with definite fructose, strawberries and apples with a dry malt bed a mild hopping.

The moutfeel is adequate

Overall this is a decent beer and drinkable. Not exceptional, but I think would be great on a hot day. (538 characters)

Golden color with a thick head with short retention.
Predominant aroma of strawberries, biscuit malt and lager yeast.
Similarly, refreshing flavor with notes of strawberries, lager yeast and faint floral hops.
Light body with mild carbonation of tiny bubbles.
Nice fruit beer, strawberry notes are not heavy and the beer is not overly sweet. Hops could be bolder, and I guess citrus hops would perfectly match this. (415 characters)

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, hazy, golden/yellow color with a quarter of a finger of white head that immediately dissolved away into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass.

Aroma: Interesting aroma. Very grassy and wheaty and barnyard. There are some fruity aromas, but what I mainly get are grassy, wheaty, barnyard aromas. Not sure if I classify it as pleasant.

Taste: Interesting flavors too. Again, grassy up front, followed immediately by lots of strawberry and cream. Actually, rather than a lager, the taste of this beer reminds me more of a cream ale flavored with strawberries.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, with some good carbonation. With an ABV of 4.2%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: Interesting beer. Fruity and creamy flavored (but not really creamy in mouthfeel). Just an interesting beer. (889 characters)

Summer Lager time.
Strawberry Lager keeps showing up in my WFM craft packs. I cannot give them away fast enough, so I cracked one open with my salmon over pasta and fresh baked tomatoes/ basil / noodle lunch.
That said in summer I often squeeze a lemon, orange, or some peel into a beer, just like I would an espresso. (but I'd never want a "FLAVORED" coffee).

Fruit beers fall into 3 categories for me:
1) Authentic, additive to malt, yeast and hops (rare): eg Selected Pumpkin Ales and Carton Panzanella http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26817/128664/
2) Authentic, but detracts from core beer (Abita falls in this category for me)
3) Fake, cloying, heading toward bathroom scented - Anything Apricot, eg St Johns Apricot Ale, any Lemon Shanty, unless I mix it myself.

A: Nice hazed body, half finger head, but only a bit of dotty lace and no retention.
S: Perhaps the best moment, because the strawberry is in reserve, but aroma is lacking across the board.
T: Authentic, but Strawberry overwhelms the lager.
MF: Strawberry all the way to the finish, not sweet, not cloying, but not anything, missing the refresh of lager, and the bitter long tingle of ale.

Also ran, I have to keep giving away. Not a lunch or a dessert beer either. (1,253 characters)

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: light golden-yellow hue with a light haze and effervescence. Head is a finger of creamy white foam with decent retention. Not bad.

Smell: lightly malty aroma with a moderate strawberry note. Not over the top, which I like, but also not terribly complex.

Taste: much like the aroma, there's a light malt flavor with a fair bit of strawberry character. I'm generally not a fan of strawberry beers; I think the fruit is too subtle to really stand out in a beer context.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a pretty decent creaminess.

Overall: this beer is fine, although it really doesn't float my boat. Well-enough made, it just doesn't have a strong appeal. (736 characters)

Bottle from Harvest Market
Pours a fairly clear medium straw color with a decent sized bubbly white head that slowly dissipates to a cap on top. Aromas of strawberry but a bit on the subtle side. Light spice, lemon, and just a touch of yeasty funk. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Yeasty wheaty with a hint of lemon and funk with a solid hit of strawberry to add a bit of complexity. Light to medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. Nice fruity light easy drinking summer ale, I quite enjoyed it. (515 characters)

It's not a great beer, but I like it anyway. The sweetness is a nice complement to spicy crawfish that is also in season when this beer comes out. I find a noticeable improvement on-tap vs. the bottle.

Not for everyone, but if you're looking for something different in the springtime, this can be a nice treat, every once and a while. (335 characters)
