Notes/Commercial Description:
Strawberry Harvest Lager is a wheat beer made with real Louisiana strawberries, picked late in the season when they’re at their sweetest. This brew has earned quite a reputation in a short time, causing the brewery to up their production year after year. When this brew is found, emails and phone calls fly to friends informing them of the store’s location. Strawberry Harvest is a crisp, light lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness.

I almost never drink a beer with fruit in it but was assured that Abita had done it really well so I gave it a shot. The first pour was a happy surprise as the beer was a nice golden hue instead of a fake red dye or something. I gave a sniff and was able to pick up on the abundance of strawberries, but also the wheat and barley which immediately screamed spring to me. The taste was smooth with a nice amount of strawberries through out. The mouthfeel was a bit thin but overall I really liked this beer. If you are a staunch opponent to fruity beers than this probably isn't the beer that will change your world view, but it is very nice.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Poured pale hazy yellow with fingers worth of head that settles to a ring with some spotty lacing.

S: First thing I'm is of course strawberry with a mix sweet vanilla upfront... Not much else but it works for this brew.

T: I'm getting wheat upfront with a hint of citrus, things turn sweet mid-palette with strawberry and vanilla. Finish is also sweet but a little more corny in the end.

M: Light with good lively carbonation and a clean finish.

O: Hey it is what it is.... a strawberry wheat and it is very good at being that. Worth looking for if you like the style.

I had the expectation that the strawberry would add some sort of light red to pink hue to this but instead it had the lightest of gold complexion with a fizzy white froth for a head.

The nose was a bit cardboardish and dull with no real strawberry but more a earthy fruit. No real sweetness hits the nose but only metallic grain.

The flavor is maybe a more real strawberry but not an overly appealing fruit flavor. There is no sweetness but more a dull, earthy gourd and bready malt.

The feel is metallic and light with a light carbonated bite.

I'm a big fan of the Purple Haze and had hoped this may emulate it a bit with just a different flavor but it falls far short of that.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 8/19/2013. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy golden straw color with a 1-2 finger moderately dense and rocky light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big ripe strawberry, strawberry jam, wheat, shortbread, cream, and light floral. Nice aromas with authentic strawberry notes and moderate malt presence; with solid strength. Taste of ripe strawberry, strawberry jam, wheat, shortbread, cream, and light floral. Lingering notes of strawberry, wheat, shortbread, and cream on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance of strawberry and malt flavors; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.2%. Overall this is a nice fruited lager style. Good balance and robustness of strawberry and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

(Served in a strange)
A- This beer pours a lemon yellow body with a strong matix of big bubbles racing to the surface. There is a thin white head that boils away before the first sip.

S-This beer has a clean aroma with a faint strawberry hint in the finish.

T- The strawberry bubble gum flavor comes through in the finish and then lingers. There is very little other flavors with some mineral water flavors that grow as the beer opens.

M- The light mouthfeel has a scrubbing fizz and no alcohol heat.

O- This beer has very little flavor and the strawberry character is a bit artificial. It was not that it has lots of bad flavor but it just has no flavor.

A - Hazy yellow pour with a fizzy white foam. Mild lacing.

S - Nice smell of strawberry preserves. The sweet sugary fruit is very dominant.

T - Pleasant springtime beer. Some light grains are noted, but the sweet taste of fresh strawberries is potent and consistent throughout drinking.

M - The sweetness could be a bit tiresome, but this is an easy drinking beer. Actually paired great with peppery Cajun food.

O - Certainly worth a try, and better than many of the spring seasonals out there.

Pours a clear straw yellow with a very thin layer of head on top with no retention. Very small strips of lacing down the glass.

Smell is of strawberry jam and fresh strawberries on the nose with a slight grain scent.

Tastes like water run over some crushed strawberries and into some beer. Not much there but it is very refreshing and clean tasting.

Mouthfeel is very light and carbonated. Very refreshing beer but again nothing special.

Overall I could drink this beer again. If someone else had some I would drink it but I don't know if its something I would seek out. It's a decent beer but that's about it. Worth the try though.

Call me a girly girl, but this is seriously one of my all-time favorite beers. I love the light airy quality of all of Abita's beers (as a Louisiana native, I can testify that it has a LOT to do with the amazing water quality in Abita Springs - where their other major industry is bottled water). The clean crisp refreshing flavor of an Abita Strawberry harvest is absolutely delightful. Not to mention the strawberries are fresh from one town over and leave a very strong strawberry aftertaste in one's mouth. I am thankful that this "seasonal beer" is usually lingering on the shelves for about half of the year.

I'm not sure what the rave is about this one. It doesn't taste remotely like a lager, or any kind of beer for that matter. Instead of the fruit collaborating with the other flavors, this "beer" really doesn't have much in ways of hops or malt. It has some wheat flavors and grain, but that is all overpowered by the strawberry. The mouthfeel is its main problem though, as this is extremely thin (even for a summer beer) and the carbonation is too high. The only thing keeping this from being a terrible investment is that the strawberry flavor tastes natural (unlike in many overly thin fruit beers) and is not excessively sweet. But when looking at this beer overall, and especially when considering that it costs around $10/six pack, it's very disappointing.

I bought this beer as a single at Trader Joe's. I really like that TJ's sells singles with no mark up. I would never have bought a six pack of strawberry beer.

This beer is good for what it is...a light lager that tastes like strawberries.

I have two real problems with this beer. 1) I don't think that it is ethical to market alcohol to middle schoolers. 2) I'm all for getting girls drunk, but I think that as a society we need to be mindful of the calories in malt beverages. A more reasonable cocktail might be Boones Strawberry wine or a sugar-free margarita.

A better name for this beer would be "Miley Cyrus" malt liquor or "Freshman 15" Ale.

Golden straw colored in appearance. Just a bit of foam remains after the pour. Looks like a craft brewed lager. The aroma is purely fresh strawberries, not overwhelmingly done. Mouthfeel is very light and smooth. Tastes like strawberries and light malt. More strawberries in the aftertaste.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Had a number of Abita's offerings so far and haven't been overly impressed but this one was nice for what it is. It's a strawberry fruit beer and that's exactly what you get. Not too overwhelming with the fruit flavor, nice aroma, nice color, very drinkable at 4.2%.

A fruit beer that is not overwhelming like most fruit beers out there today. Nice smell very light but you get a good whiff of strawberry in the nose... at first sip the malt Is all there but literally 1/4 of a second later the strawberry kicks in on the middle of your tongue. It also runs down your throat slightly which is nice. Mouthfeel is about normal... nothing superb. A bit of a bite from the hops but nothing major. Overall a good beer and the best and only strawberry beer I've tried. To me a balance is everything and this beer is not overwhelming on any part. Would definitely recommend to fruit beer lovers

Poured a thin head on a clear, hazy golden colored body.
The aroma is all strawberry jam. The real stuff without the extra sugar.
The taste is a strawberry jam with a bit of lager thrown in. Fairly mild flavor, which in this case is good.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
It is what it is... a strawberry beer. And at that it does a good job.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

I know when I think New Orleans, strawberries strike my brain first in association... Anyway, this stuff pours a mostly clear sunrise brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose is an adept recreation in liquid of a strawberry-flavored Pop-Tart, crust and all. The taste generally brings more of the same, though there's more of that crust flavor and a touch of berry tartness near the finish, which, oddly enough, seems out of place, given the pervasive feeling of sweetness throughout. It also kinda stabs out, an unnatural lightning. The body is a light medium, with a moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, an okay beer at best, but one that just doesn't quite sit all that well with me. Thankfully, the strawberry flavor isn't truly an artificial one, but it's not altogether pleasant, either.

The brew pours a very pale yellow with a finger of white froth. Some spotty suds of lace stick to the glass and overall the cap shows decent retention. A swirl revives a finger to the surface.

The aroma includes notes of wheat and fresh cereal grains with a subtle addition of seedy strawberry sweetness that gets a bit sugary as it warms up. The strawberry hint is fairly impressive as it adds a nice nuance to the otherwise plain nose.

The flavor is wheaty and cereal-like with a seedy strawberry flavor that is present without having to search for it. This is pleasantly complex with a hint of grassy quality into the finish. A mild sulfur inclusion is the only telling sign of this being a lager. The otherwise strong grain presence makes me think wheat beer.

This is a medium to light bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is clean and easy drinking/refreshing. Not something I see myself getting into and buying but it was nice to have a go at and at least say I tried it.

Abita Strawberry Harvest Lager bottle pour

Appearance. Clear golden with. 1 finger white head with minimal lacing

Aroma mild malty with moderate sweet strawberry hints

Taste. Mildly hop front end with little malty middle and a sweet strawberry finish

Mouthfeel smooth with moderate to heavy carbonation

Overall a nice strawberry Lager that balances well with spicy foods like boiled crawfish. But being from Louisiana I may be a little bias

I poured a bottle into a flute glass.

Appearance- Clear, pale gold color with a fingers worth of head. Nice retention with a fair amount of clinging lace.

Smell- Strawberries and wheat malt.

Taste- Wheat malt and strawberry flavors. The strawberry flavor is mellow and not overpowering.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied and slightly creamy. An average amount of carbonation.

Overall- This is one of the better tasting strawberry beers that I have had. Unlike other fruit beers that I've tried, the strawberry flavor is natural tasting and not syrupy or candy-like. Definitely worth trying.

T - I love the strawberry taste of this beer. Its not overdone at all and it tastes like actual strawberries not something artificial. Abita has found the perfect balance of sweetness, malts, and strawberries for this beer. Excellent job.

M - It is a very light beer. Great carbination as well. Feels smooth and silky.

Pours a clear light golden color with a small quickly dissipating head. Smells of strawberries - fresh strawberries, makes me really want to take that first sip.

Once taking that first sip, I instantly pick up a mild sweet strawberry flavor. The strawberries aren't overpowering which is nice and it doesn't taste artificial like some fruit beers do. I guess that's the fact that only "real fresh ingredients" are used in Abita's harvest brews. Other than strawberry pick up hints of wheat and a good amount of carbonation.

The beer is pretty one note, but it's a delicious clean, crisp, mild strawberry note. I could put back a few of these with no problem. Very drinkable.

12oz bottle poured into a lager glass.

A: Dull straw color. Good clarity. Rocky white head retains very well. Foamy clumps of lacing cling to the glass here and there.

S: Strawberry candy, shortbread, wheat, an possibly a very subtle hint of tartness.

T: Big wheaty pull. Strawberry candy. Nip of tartness is more pronounced than the nose suggested. Shortbread. Abrupt finish of wheat and tart strawberry.

M: Very light in body. Fluffy with a slight push of firmness. Creamy. Moderate carbonation.

O: Put together a little better than the average fruit beer. The strawberry comes off as a bit artificial. The tartness saves the beer and elevates drinkability just enough. You could do worse for a warm weather fruit beer.

Blonde color. Some light haze. Disc of white suds perches on the surface. Looks okay.

Strawberry taffy, artificial raspberry, perfumey notes, pale malts, white chocolate, some other off-fragrance. Very strange. Smells waxy like a candle. Not right. Embellished.

Tastes like the nose. Strawberries and cream gummies, fruity soap, perfume, sweet cracker, touch of floral hops, white raspberry, and leafiness. I get that it's a beer, but this is wrong-weird. After doing some research, I realize there are wheat malts used. That could definitely explain some of the strange combinations of flavors. Some natural strawberry flavor peeks out in the finish.

Very watery. Terribly thin. Carbonation takes over. Too overblown. Stings like a big gulp of strawberry soda.

Below-average. Hard to finish. Doesn't even spell 'refreshment'. Avoid.
