Notes/Commercial Description:
Strawberry Harvest Lager is a wheat beer made with real Louisiana strawberries, picked late in the season when they’re at their sweetest. This brew has earned quite a reputation in a short time, causing the brewery to up their production year after year. When this brew is found, emails and phone calls fly to friends informing them of the store’s location. Strawberry Harvest is a crisp, light lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness.

Pours a slightly hazy blond yellow. Fizzy head that settles at about a half inch of flim at the top of the liquid. There is a brief faint hint of beer aroma, but for the most part sweet strawberry is all I smell. The taste is just way to sweet and fruity for me. The few bitter beer flavors that come out don't complement the strawberry flavor. I know slamming a strawberry beer for being sweet and fruity is like reviewing an IPA and saying you don't like the bitterness. It's strawberry beer, this is how it's supposed to taste and smell. They made it right, I just don't like it. That being said, I could not drink it.

The pour is pretty, i will give it that, nice head, soem lacing, but thats all that good about this beer. It smells and tastes like you squeezed a pound of strawberries into a glass of simple syrup, cloyingly sweet, no depth, no nuances, horrible beer, avoid it like the plague.

I did not like this brew! The apperance was average for a normal lager. The smell was surley of strawberries and not a hint of anything but malt. The taste was not very good at all. It reminded me of how stinky feet smell. The mouthfeel is a little to light for my liking and it does not have a very decent drinability.

Sampled 21 March 2007, purchased in Abita Springs, LA for me by a friend
12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Color & Head: Very clear and straw colored. Fizzy. Not a lot of head.

Aroma: A touch of strawberry in it, but not a lot. Kind of sour, really. Not much hops.

Taste: Not a lot of flavor here. I was expecting some serious strawberry flavor from what I’ve heard and read. I can barely taste any and The Wife says she can’t taste any at all. Still very sour. Too sour.

Notes: I’m not very impressed. I don’t usually go for fruit beers, but the fruit isn’t he problem with this one. Some guys at the Keg & Barrel were saying it was terrific last year, and they normally don’t care for fruit beers either so I was enthusiastic about getting some of this. I had a friend bring me back some form LA last weekend. I got a sixer, but I think I’ll save the other five for guests hat want to try it.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Westmalle chalice. No freshness date.

Appearance: Pours a very pale golden yellow color. The beer is very transparent, and the lively bubbles are clearly seen rising to the surface. The pure white head rises to a half fingers worth, then fades to a single blob in the center of the glass.

Smell: Pale wheat aroma, followed by some nice, tart, under ripened strawberries, a little on the sour side. The strawberry has a very sweet, almost candy smell to it. A lot of citrus, maybe a touch of orange zest.

Taste: Right off the bat...nothing really, maybe a tiny bit of wheat and grassy flavors. The strawberry comes next, the same processed, candy taste as the aroma would indicate. The beer finishes clean, with no aftertaste whatsoever.

Mouthfeel: Thin body with a medium carbonation. The beer has the consistency of water, and the carbonation is very prickly on the tongue.

Overall: This is a highly drinkable beer. I really could drink this like water. The very subtle flavor(s) is there, and then it is gone, leaving no aftertaste. It is very refreshing and quenching.

A - clear yellow color with lots of tiny bubbles lead to good white head from a hard pour

S - very sweet strawberry aroma overwhelms the senses immediately, leaving no room for anything else in the nose

T - crisp and cool taste of sweet strawberries follow the aroma throughout the mouth

M - this is definitely a light, summer lager, and its crispness brings a sparkling feeling throughout the mouth

D - too much of a novelty for much enjoyment, but certainly an interesting thing to try once

A: Very light, limited cloudiness. 1/2-1 finger head.
S: Gives off a strong scent of strawberries, which dominates any malty notes. My first strawberry lager but it seems too overpowering.
T: Strawberry flavor is plentiful, yet tart. More maltiness in a sip than smell, but an absence of seemingly necessary hops.
M: Smooth enough so that the tartness does not linger on the tongue; light.
D: Not a "go-to" beer, but will finish 6-pack.

12oz bottle poured into a perfect pint glass.

Pours a really light and hazy yellow with no head or lacing at all. Nose is quite odd, it's sweet and wheaty and smetying is jsut odd.

Taste... Ehh I had it when I was younger and liked it but now it's just weird. There's lots of wheat and a light hint of strawberry it's really odd. Skip it and get their regular beers.

Aroma: Pilsner malt, strawberry, rice. Not too excited here. A bit skunked maybe, although the "best by" date is way out and the bottle is brown.

Appearance: Pale yellow. Slight cloudiness. Little white head, no lacing.

Taste: Pilsner malt, wheat, rice, artificial strawberry flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. Moderate carbonation.

Overall: Not interested. Very little fruit flavor, and what is there tastes synthetic.

Note: Drank on 4/22/2012. Best by date is 8/22/2012.
Probably the shortest review I've written to date, that's not just a coincidence.

Shared with a friend (thanks, Tyler) at RFD Washington. This is a bit hazy, and relatively flat. Unfortunately the overall impression of this brew by everyone involved was best encapsulated by Tyler (who is a big Purple Haze fan), who described it as "kid’s toothpaste in a glass." Only for the fruit lovers. (#2773, 4/5/2007)

I'm not sure what the rave is about this one. It doesn't taste remotely like a lager, or any kind of beer for that matter. Instead of the fruit collaborating with the other flavors, this "beer" really doesn't have much in ways of hops or malt. It has some wheat flavors and grain, but that is all overpowered by the strawberry. The mouthfeel is its main problem though, as this is extremely thin (even for a summer beer) and the carbonation is too high. The only thing keeping this from being a terrible investment is that the strawberry flavor tastes natural (unlike in many overly thin fruit beers) and is not excessively sweet. But when looking at this beer overall, and especially when considering that it costs around $10/six pack, it's very disappointing.

I'm not a huge fan of this beer, although I should have known what I got myself into when I purchased a 'Strawberry Harvest Lager."

Very sweet, strawberry smell. Very light light (did I say light?) color. Extremely thin body. Very basic and not complex at all.

I really like Abita's Purple Haze and TurboDog, but would never purchase this one again.

That being said, if served very cold on a hot summer day, I wouldn't turn it away.

Big white head quickly dies over a clear washed out yellow-golden colored fruit beer.

The aroma gave me an instant flashback of some strawberry cereal I had so many years ago, but what the name of it was escapes me now. There is not much else other than the strawberry cereal aroma.

A washed out strawberry cereal taste, not much else going on here, maybe a slight washed out malt but could really get that more than the first couple sips.

Light bodied without much aftertaste, maybe slightly breakfast cereal strawberries.

I really hope this beer is supposed to be better than this and this was just not right for whatever reason.

Pours a hazy yellowish color with a short lived smallish white head. Smell is sweet malt and strawberry candy, and a bit strange. Taste is like strawberry cereal and reminds me of the milk at the bottom of the bowl. Medium bodied with normal carbonation. Hint of odd sourness. Not that great.

Our tasters thought the strong strawberry nose and the surprisingly unsweet taste were the strongest points of the beer, but it still lacked the body and complexity of a truly great strawberry wheat. Still, on the whole, it was a good fruit beer that even those of us who dislike such beers could enjoy.

Nice to see Abita in Maine (how about that):

In a pint glass:

A: yellow colored body with a fizzy pale head that dies within less than thirty seconds. There is no lacing that is left. Carbonation is barely seen rising.

S: strawberry, nothing else

T: only strawberry

M: light and fizzy (Is this beer or soda?)

O: well, this is the first beer I've had by Abita, so I don't want to bust on them too much. However, this isn't necessarily a beer I will buy again.

Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a pint glass...2008 vintage

Appearance - Clear see through gold with a tiny half finger white head. Nice white mist left on top after the head disappeared.

Smell - Sweet sweet strawberry smell blended in with some malts

Taste & Mouthfeel - Strawberries taste just like the freeze dried ones you get in cereal boxes. Crisp and tangy taste in the beginning turns into a smooth sweet malt in the back. Very light and lager like.

Drinkability - Nothing complex at all about this beer. I usually limit myself to one or two a season. A Sunday breakfast brew in the springtime that would make a great paring with some pecan pancakes. Not a big fan, but is nice for a yearly sample.

Strawberry is not an easy fruit to pull off. Pours a mostly hazy darker yellow to golden hue. A slightly pinkish hue. A bubbly white head on the pour but quickly dissipates and not much lacing to speak of.

The nose is limited both on base beer and fruit. To start there is a light grainy aroma with a off candy like backing. Some hints of berries but nothing really specifically noting strawberries. Has a almost artificial type of aroma. There is a noticeable metallic smell that I get with all of Abita's beers. Some light grassy notes in the back end.

The taste is similar to the nose. The malt is limited with more of a candy like backing than grainy or husky. The metallic notes are a bit stronger and really are distracting in the taste. The berry comes out more than the nose indicated but does not have that distinct strawberry flavor. Tends to fade as the beer warms. Also some yeast notes come out as well.

The body is light and a bit wispy. Carbonation is low but ok. Overall, sure strawberries are hard to do, but there are some other off notes in this beer that just create an off experience.

Picked this bottle up as part of a mixed six pack today at Total Wines.

A:The beer pours a slightly cloudy golden yellow. Small head, quarter inch slowly rose, then fizzled fast to just a ring of bubbles.

S: The strawberries overpower, it's hard to get much else. Slight bit of wheat, and corn syrup as well.

T: Sugar, strawberries, syrup, and some mild corn.

M: Sightly crisp, a little sticky. Lightly carbonated, and a bit thin on the finish.

O: okay. One and done for me. Hard to get past the cloying sweetness, for a lager it's not that refreshing.

A - Poured out a yellow color with hints of pink. It was a little hazy with a one finger, white head that left no lace.

S - It smelled sweet and of a little strawberry.

T - The strawberry flavor was muted. Other wise it just tasted like a bland lager, but not bitter.

M - It was crisp and smooth. A light-bodied beer.

D - It lacked much flavor at all. It wasn't a great brew but far better than their Purple Haze.

Strawberry for sure this one is. I like sweet fruit beers but this one is just too much for my tastes. Not enough malt in the wort boil, i think to accomadate the fruit. This is even to sweet to drink 2 in a row. A good beer perhaps for a fun loving lady of the evening!

From notes 9-22-08

Eye: Pale gold in color...yellow, misty looking, almost tornadic, as the tiny delicate carbonation seeks the surface of this brew. Head is stable at about ½ a finger, white in color and creamy looking. Lacing is pretty good for a brew such as this.

Nose: Strawberry candy, specifically runts, that's it. No hops, no malt. Hey what do you espect? It's a fruit beer! At least its balls to the walls and strong with its fruity aroma, albeit it is a fake fruit aroma, were real strawberries actually thrown in the beer it would smell different.

Tongue: Again, like candy-pink runts...what a throw back to my childhood which is now about 13 years past. Nothing really but that candy type of strawberry flavor which fades quick enough, maybe some beer flavor in there, that prolly what separates this one from any Smirnoff product.

Mouthfeel and Drinkability: Pretty watery overall, light on the palate, but that is to be expected. After drinking real fruit beers such as Founders Rubeas this pales in comparison...and the color shows it...haha. Carbonation is actually pretty low, would've expected it to be higher-to be something more like a wine cooler, but alas no...and thank God its not higher, that would totally bastardize this beer. Real easy drinker, I can almost chug this beer, I mean that totally signifies that it is a poor brew, anything respectable should hold its own and NOT be able to be chugged. This is one you could drink all night, but why.... unless you are trying to get your significant other wasted, and even then it'll prolly take more than a sixer.

s- good strawberry smell, normal lagery notes, little malt, nice.

t- really wish the taste matched the smell for me, sweet strawberry, mild lagery taste underneath, little too sweet for me, it tasted really watered down too.

d- drinkability is just ok, probably won't have another, others didn't seem to think it was watery, maybe it's just me.

A - Pale dirty gold color, pretty nonexistant head, no lacing.

S - Pretty malty and bready, some strawberry flavor without the sweetness they generally carry.

T - Malty, very bisquity, some mellow strawberry-like taste that turns slightly sour without a lot of sweetness. I actually think more of the sweetness in this brew is coming from the malt backbone than the strawberrys.

M - Thin and light bodied, mine seemed a touch flat.

D - Easy to drink, due to low ABV and no real offensive tastes sticking out. Strawberry beers are hard to do, and this is not one I care much for nor would seek out again.
