Notes/Commercial Description:
Strawberry Harvest Lager is a wheat beer made with real Louisiana strawberries, picked late in the season when they’re at their sweetest. This brew has earned quite a reputation in a short time, causing the brewery to up their production year after year. When this brew is found, emails and phone calls fly to friends informing them of the store’s location. Strawberry Harvest is a crisp, light lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness.

You know what makes online driver safety courses more entertaining? BEER! Remember that when I’m back on the road next week.

Best before date is four months after the date of this tasting (“BEST BY 09/18/12”).

A: Pours yellow and fizzy, very pale yellow with a very white head. Fortunately, the Keystone-style foam settles to a nice creamy retention, with spots of chunky lacing. Still looks like a typical light lager, though.

S: Love that strawberry aroma! The scents are a mix of smooth strawberry sauce and tart berries, satisfyingly fresh and rich at the same time. Very light grains as well: grainy wheat and slightly toasted malts. Excellent form, with a noticeable bread character throughout – the whole thing reminds me of strawberry shortcake, buttery and sweet.

T: A very grainy lager flavor is present through the palate, not entirely far from something like Shock Top or Blue Moon. It’s chewy and palatable, but not very exciting. The strawberry is there, of course, but it mixes with the cereal grains to make a big Fruity Pebbles taste. Light scrapings of wheat across the tongue, with a light angel food cake sweetness to its bready aftertaste. Finishes as such, with a bit more flower petal pungency as the mild flavors leave their mild marks.

M: Light and fizzy; I guess the appearance left nothing to the imagination. The beer’s gone in a matter of moments, though.

O: What Abita has here is a great, refreshing beer for someone who says “I don’t like beer.” For me, I’ll pass on another, though I like the idea of fruit-infused lagers; I just wish they were done in a more lambic-meets-Helles fashion.

Big white head quickly dies over a clear washed out yellow-golden colored fruit beer.

The aroma gave me an instant flashback of some strawberry cereal I had so many years ago, but what the name of it was escapes me now. There is not much else other than the strawberry cereal aroma.

A washed out strawberry cereal taste, not much else going on here, maybe a slight washed out malt but could really get that more than the first couple sips.

Light bodied without much aftertaste, maybe slightly breakfast cereal strawberries.

I really hope this beer is supposed to be better than this and this was just not right for whatever reason.

Aroma: Pilsner malt, strawberry, rice. Not too excited here. A bit skunked maybe, although the "best by" date is way out and the bottle is brown.

Appearance: Pale yellow. Slight cloudiness. Little white head, no lacing.

Taste: Pilsner malt, wheat, rice, artificial strawberry flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. Moderate carbonation.

Overall: Not interested. Very little fruit flavor, and what is there tastes synthetic.

Note: Drank on 4/22/2012. Best by date is 8/22/2012.
Probably the shortest review I've written to date, that's not just a coincidence.

Slightly chill hazed gold colored beer with a small white head.

Smell is mild strawberry with slightly sweet malt aroma. Mild vanilla and biscuit malt. Little bit of noble hop scent mostly lemon.

Starts out mild lager with a distinct vanilla taste. Strawberry and vanilla are both present with the vanilla actually being a little stronger than the strawberry. Slight sourness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is light.

Tasty beer but it is very much light in flavor and body. An excellent beer for hot weather.

Light. Crisp. Resfreshing. Good summer beer. The aroma and taste wasn't as strong as I was hoping for, but nevertheless, still wonderful. I guess if you don't drink many fruity beers, maybe I can see the bold strawberry notes. I just didn't. For me, it was more subtle. But will definately have this again!

Poured into a pint glass. Pours slightly hazy and a light, reddish yellow color with a two-finger length white head. the head recedes slowly, leaving some lacing on the glass. Some bubbles can be seen rising from the bottom of the glass, which seems to indicate adequate carbonation. The smell is of pale wheat malt and strawberry. The aroma is fairly mild and clean. The strawberry flavor immediately hits the tongue on the first sip. The wheat malt also comes through, but the strawberry flavor is pretty dominant. The hop flavor is very mild, but some bitterness is present in the back end. This helps lend a little balance. The body is light and there is moderate carbonation. The finish is crisp and clean. The drinkability is very high. When you have one of these, you can understand why this is anticipated as much as it is. It is a solid, refreshing beer that is much better than their perennial fruit beer offering Purple Haze. This is very enjoyable on a warm day or as an after meal drink. It really cleans the palate well. This is one of the better examples of fruit beer I've tried.

A - Pours a clear golden color with a decent sized head and great lacing for this type of beer.

S - Really bright and sweet strawberries.

T - Really sweet strawberry flavor...so much so that this hardly tastes like a beer. I can taste a bit of the wheat, but the strawberry flavors are really strong. How much you like this will be directly related to your opinion of strawberries.

M - Light bodied, very drinkable in the way that this is extremely light and fruity. Pretty smooth.

O - You want a strawberry beer? This is the one for you. Strong strawberry flavors dominate and make this a great beer for those who prefer fruity flavors to the more traditional.

Had from bottle. Smells like sugary strawberry and lager malts. Tastes like a coors with strawberry added...but its actually way better than that sounds. Its slightly sweet but balanced with the malts and grains. Nice brew, but such a low abv leaves me wanting more.

Got this one in NOLA!

A- Pours a chill hazed light golden color with just a slight tinge of pink in it (obviously from the strawberries). It has an initial two finger thick white head, but it fizzles out rather quickly into a web of very thin foam. The carbonation doesn't appear to be overly aggressive either, and the lacing is modest, with small whisps of foam clinging to my lager glass.

S- Sweet strawberry goodness penetrates my nasal cavity right away, and I don't feel that it smells like anything manufactured. There is faint notes of malt and even a little yeasty biscuit thrown in there. It definitely smells like a summer/dessert brew!

T- I find this to be very delightful on the palate! The strawberry, again, is right upfront, but it is a very natural taste and isn't overpowering in my mouth. There is some barley malt noted, and perhaps just a hint of hop right after the swallow. It tastes somewhat like fresh strawberries poured over pound cake....there is just that perfect blend of sweetness.

M- Overall this is thin bodied and refreshing. I don't find the carbonation to be overdone either, but rather just the right amount of sizzle on my palate from the bubbles bursting...it enhances the strawberry flavor of the beer. It's clean and crisp at the end, really allowing me to want another sip right away.

O- In general, this is a very highly drinkable lager that deserves it's place as a highly sought after brew, from what I understand anyways. I did have a bottle while in New Orleans and found it very nice during the humid hot weather and I'm reminded of how good it really is! I recommend this one and think it is a high quality patio beer! I would love to see this one in my neck of the woods one day....maybe, just maybe!
