Notes/Commercial Description:
Bock (January – March) is the first of our seasonal brews. It is brewed with Perle hops and pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Abita Bock is a very popular brew, especially during our Mardi Gras season.

Mardi Gras Bock pours a clear bronze color with little to no head. No lacing on the glass.

The aroma is malty with notes of caramel and bread. Hints of peach and grass are also present.

Each sip of this light to medium bodied beer is lightly syrupy with a moderate carbonated fizz. the flavor is malty with caramel and bread followed by some fruity notes of peach (pear?). It finishes bitter with grassy notes. Once gone the caramel and grass lingers on the palate.

A descent beer that leans towards the malty side. Easy to drink and would go good with BBQ.

Sampling right now on 3/20/14. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a pilsner flute glass.

Pours a purplish-amber in color with a thin white head that settles down along the inside of the glass on top. Some spotty lacing is seen. The aroma is of of caramel malts, roasted malts with a hint of honey. The taste is even better with lots going on and has a great taste! Full body with lots of flavor that is mentioned above. Perfect balance as well as perfect carbonation. Goes down easy with no bitter aftertaste. A great tasty brew!

Appearance:
Burnt orange color, looks clear. Lots of small bubbles rising up. Thick rocky head.

Aroma:
Faint. I smell some toasted malts and caramel.

Taste/Finish/Body:
Very rich and malty, bready, toasted, caramel, hint of honey. Hop bitterness is low, spicy noble hops. Finish is very crisp, clean and just a little dry. Body is full, very smooth, crisp, semi refreshing, well carbonated.

Overall:
It's an outstanding beer.

A: Pours a relatively clear medium orangish amber in color with light to moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass along with copper highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy sudsy beige head that reduces pretty quickly to a large patch of very thin film and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of bready and caramel malts with light aromas of floral hops.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of bready, caramel, and pale malts with a light amount of initial sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of floral hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which does not linger.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Easy to drink with a nice blend of distinct malt flavors and a definitely hop presence which is not overbearing. Enjoyable and not too filling. Definitely one to grab again.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Crystal clear copper with a foamy tan head, good retention. Light lacing.

Aroma: Mildly metallic but coated over with toffee and malts.

Taste: Rich malts bring out some buttery flavors mixed with some toffee and faint nuttiness. Sharp, bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Pretty harsh, medium bodied.

Overall: A little too rough around the edges, but does offer some decent flavors.
