Notes/Commercial Description:
Bock (January – March) is the first of our seasonal brews. It is brewed with Perle hops and pale and caramel malts. Our Bock is similar to a German Maibock in its high malt content, full body and slightly higher alcohol content. Abita Bock is a very popular brew, especially during our Mardi Gras season.

Pours clear copper with a white head. The smell is of sweet malt, a pleasant floral hop aroma and some breadiness. The taste of slightly sweet malts immediately comes in on the first sip. This is balanced with some hop spiciness and bitterness. The flavor is fairly rich, but also very clean. The mouthfeel is medium and the carbonation is very adequate. I picked this up in the Abita Party Pack and I have to say I'm pleased with this effort overall. I would pick this up as a six-pack. This is a solid beer.

This Bock is on the lighter side of the style, a dark orange leaning brownish-red in the darkest depths. The tan-tinted head isn't small but it doesn't last very long. It is able to throw down some thin patching in decent quantity, though.
The nose is a little odd, with a dark malts foundation but little strength and giving little but earth, wood and some sort of metallic mineral note.
It's earthy with a notes of woods, kind of stemmy in the bitterness, with a bit of a nutty character underneath. A bit of breadiness shows up in the malt profile, too, and the hops add a very gentle black pepper bite.
Bock shouldn't be huge, but this seems a little thin in body. Still, the malts lay down pretty good support, and there's a good balance between crisp and smooth, dry and sweet.
