Single bottle (best by 02/2011) poured into a shaker pint glass.
Appearance: Clear tarnished copper color. Hard pour gave a 1/8" thick head, but this died down to a thin film across the top and a ring around the edge of the glass. Chunky strands of lacing noted as I drank it down.
Smell: Bready in the bottle, but not a lot after pouring. Once it warmed up, faint roasted malt and a strong roasted pecan smell.
Taste: There is some pecan sweetness up front, then roasted malts. The beer is never too sweet and the malts are muted a bit. If there are hops in here, it's just enough to counter the malt so that neither comes out strong. Like the bottle says, this beer is a bit like a brown ale with pecans in it. It's okay - nothing special other than the pecan flavor.
Mouthfeel: Spicy carbonation on the tongue, but otherwise a bit watery.
Drinkability: It's okay. Went allright with a meal (meatloaf) but not well with that meal. I think I could drink it alone - but I lost interest after awhile. I prefer brown ales with a bit more malt forward flavors. An okay beer.
