Notes/Commercial Description:
Jockamo I.P.A. is a traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color and malty flavor. This full-flavored beer is hopped and dry hopped liberally with Willamette and Columbus hops from the Pacific Northwest and has a 6.5% A.B.V. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate.

It has a cloudy amber appearance. The scent is distinctively hoppie, but not overpowering. Those that don't like the smell of hops may disagree. The carbonation is low. The taste is pretty bitter in keeping with the American version of IPA's vs. the British ones. I couldn't really taste the malt due to the hops dominant presence. The flavors are prominent without being overpowering. It would go really well with some salty food, like a couple hot dogs and fries.

Quite handsome orangey amber color with lots of suds in the Orval chalice. Head retention is average. Plenty of prickly carbonation in the mouth. This would be a refreshing jolt if you were really thirsty.

There is just a puff of hop aromatics at first. Some crackery malt with a touch of sweetness. Some resiny notes and rather tangy overall. There is an odd flavor that reminds me of the aftertaste of fish. A mineral touch and slight bitter aftertaste.

As a Pale Ale this is quite drinkable and smooth, but I wouldn't look to this for much hop flavor. Abita is one of the breweries I totally ignore, but someone brought this over so I had to try it. From the 12 oz bottle.

Dark gold appearance with a thick, sticky head and plenty of fine carbonation bubbles rising upward. Fair pine and citrus hop aroma; honey dew melon; slight biscuit scent. Nicely balanced bread and sweet bitterness in the flavors. Medium bodied; dry finish.

A tasty, light and easy drinking IPA. Decent balance throughout the taste experience although the mouthfeel may come across a bit weak and watery. It's not as in-your-face as west coast styled IPAs, so it may appeal more to someone looking for a session-styled IPA.
