Notes/Commercial Description:
Jockamo I.P.A. is a traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color and malty flavor. This full-flavored beer is hopped and dry hopped liberally with Willamette and Columbus hops from the Pacific Northwest and has a 6.5% A.B.V. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: light orange-brown hue with a touch of haze and a very light effervescence. Head is a finger of creamy ivory foam. Not bad at all.

Smell: very malty indeed with a very light earthy hop character. Not super IPA-like but not terrible for that.

Taste: caramelly malt flavor up front with a light hop character and a light bitterness. The malt character reminds me of extract homebrew. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's rather underwhelming.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a good creaminess for the style. Easily this beer's best attribute.

Overall: this beer wouldn't appeal strongly to me even if it weren't marketed as an IPA. But as it is, it's definitely not winning any awards from me.

Phenomenal. The the immediate taste and aroma combination is flowery and reminiscent of candy or raw manuka honey. This sweetness however is very fleeting, and sets the stage for the intense bitterness of your average IPA. The aftertaste is like that of a sugarless dark chocolate.

It pours reddish burnt golden brown. Very red.

A very normal head, nothing out of the ordinary.

This is a fantastic beer; it's one of the few I could describe as "sweet yet serious."

Live here. Love this beer. Abita has some wonderful stuff. Looking forward to the new flagship brew. Wrought Iron IPA.

Like may top raters I find Abita beers to be bland and mid-pack. But they do experiment, and in this case, push for a "mardi gra" boldness that's interesting, but not making me draw on this beer.

A: Give vigorous pour to get some loose and rough 1 finger head with lots of lace, over a very dark amber, mahogany body.
S: Not enough. Citrus, straw, and a bit metallic. (it's the water?) Even after warming, it's faint.
T: More to the taste, but still thin and lacking. Initially, a bit too sweet which made me go for a biscuit. Multi hued, but very subtle hops with a good finishing bite. Odd. A bit of corn and metal too.
F: too thin for me, low carbonation, not a lot of mouth feel.

Not coming back soon to this.
