Notes/Commercial Description:
Jockamo I.P.A. is a traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color and malty flavor. This full-flavored beer is hopped and dry hopped liberally with Willamette and Columbus hops from the Pacific Northwest and has a 6.5% A.B.V. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate.

12 oz bottle served in standard pint glass

S - floral & citrusy (orange) hops

T - sweet balance for an IPA, with easily noticeable but mild hop bitterness on finish. Some caramel malt detectable. Surprised to see IBU=52; seems lower.

A - nearly clear reddish amber with nice off-white head.

M - neither thin nor full, with good carbonation.

Very drinkable IPA; drinks and tastes like a pale ale as much as an IPA.

12 ounce bottle/Duvel tulip. Pours a slightly hazy amberish honey shade with a generous cap of frothy off-white head. Scattered specks and small patches of lace.

Not a lot of excitement in the nose- mild herbal and mineral hop notes, bready malt, and that's about it. Tastes very tame as well. The dominant flavor is caramel, with some herbal bitterness kicking in toward the finish. A touch of metallic aftertaste. Little in the way of hop flavor. Just not a lot to stimulate the senses here.

Notes from 10/12/10

A:Pours a see thru copper color with a fingers worth of white head that quickly
falls, not much lacing down the glass

S:Up front you get mostly malt then a small kick of piney/citrus hop aroma but with
nothing to over dominating

T:At first hit there is all malt then in the middle is a small amount of hops then
another lay down of malt on the backburner. Nothing too exciting or uprising.

M:Body is pretty watery with not much carbonation

D:Not to surprised with the outcome of this one. First off drinking this was like drinking a glass of water with a little bit of flavor to it. Very thin body, hardly any hop flavor, and not really enjoyable to drink. Def. not one I will try again.

I got this squatty 12oz single from Beverage Warehouse in Winooski for $1.65. Served cold in a chilled pint glass.

Clear orange brew gives a smooth off-white head that settles to a thin solid layer and also covers the glass. Smell has some light malt, a bit of hop and florals, but pretty mild on the nose overall. The taste has a nice wide-spectrum hop, not pungent but very full and rounded, on a nice semi-sweet backbone. Finishes with some green tea and lingering hop. Feel is light and smooth, light carbonation bordering on watery.

Orange, amber in color. Creamy, off white head with excellent retention and sticky lace. Lots of visible bubbles.

Aroma of pine and smooth grain.

Assertive piney and herbal hops hit the tongue right away followed by a sweet caramel malt character. Smooth bread-like flavors in the background provide balance. It has a great flavor up until the aftertaste which imparts a dirty, soil flavor, turning it into a bitter mess.

Medium-bodied and well carbonated. Drying on the palate.

Its decent for an IPA but there are plenty of better examples out there.

Bottle poured into pint glass.

A- Poured a deep copper reddish color into my pint glass with a thick 2 finger head that sticks around for a good long while.

S- No hops presence in this pour, light on the smell in general. a light flowery smell is about all.

T- Not too much flavor, light on the hops, but drinkable. Definitely not what is expected for an IPA with that sort of alcohol content.

M- Kinda like a BMC, light, crisp, no hops presence.

D- Could drink this all night, but i wouldn't want too. Good try though fellers!

A- pours a splendid bronze with a frothy white head that lasts and leaves plenty of lacing.
S- This was pretty disappointing. There just really wasn't much aroma here. Some faint hops, slightly fruity, and some malt, but completely understated, especially for style.
T- Picked up a bit here. Mostly caramel malts and some grapefruity hops. Not bad, just not very captivating.
M- A bit thin, but not unbearably so. Carbonation was a bit high, but I actually found this slightly redeeming.
D- Not a bad IPA, just nothing to go out of your way for.

s-caramel, slight hops, slight floral scent
t-nice mellow caramel, mild hops taste
m-feels decent in the mouth, maybe a little thin but nice oil texture.
d-this is for fans of not so hoppy ipa's and caramel malts. compared to the two ipa's ive had today(sierra nevada torpedo, bells two hearted ale), this one is probably going to be prefered by those who enjoy some hops but not a punch in the face.

This beer pours a dark amber color with almost no head. There was a very slight hoppy smell almost unnoticeable. The taste was the same just a slightly hoppy watered down taste. The flavor is just weak. Overall not impossible to drink but very disappointed.

Pours a clear dark orange color with a frothy off-white head that leaves plenty of lacing.

Smells of sweet malt with some light citrus.

Tastes of the malt mostly with some touches of hops. Malt is mostly sugary sweet with some caramel notes. Hops are not concentrated enough and do not offer much bitterness. Hops give a decent citrus flavor. Too sweet for an IPA.

Mouthfeel is medium with a crisp amount of carbonation.

A: This beer pours a clear copper color body with a massive head. Off-white in color, the rocky head is about 3 fingers and mostly lastly leaving somewhat decent lacing on the glass.

S: Pine and citrus aromas are detected in the nose with some malt undertones.

T: On the initial taste, a floral sweetess is on the tip of the tongue followed by a sharp bitterness on the back of the tongue. The taste is of mellow caramel malts and mild hops with a dry yeasty aftertaste. Smooth and refreshing, this is somewhat average tasting IPA.

M: Medium body with mild carbonation and a juicy texture.

D: Not my favorite IPA, but it's a good standard for someone who has not tried one and may want to start trying IPAs and the hoppiness that it usual entails.

Poured from a stubby little bottle into a pint glass.

A: Slightly hazy brownish-orange with a fully loaded, solid, frothy beige head.

S: Malty at first with plenty of biscuits and a dash of floral hops, lightly fragrant.

T: Malty again with caramel and earthy, sourdough biscuits. Well balanced and not bitter.

D: Easy-to-drink beginner IPA. Good one to introduce someone to the style.

Value: As with all Abita beers, you can find a sixer under 8 bucks usually. Good deal.

12oz bottle into pint glass.
A: Pours a thin, off white head that sinks quick and does not leave much lacing. A copper body is slightly clear and filtered looking.
S: Notes of apple, hop, and clove. A meek aroma for an IPA.
T/M: A bland taste of apples, more like a hoppy cider. Still a nice finishing bit of hops that does not totally put the name IPA to shame. A smooth apple juice like mouthfeel. All to low carbonation on this brew, feels like a flat juice beer.
D: This is a easy drinking brew that I am having a hard time with. The flavors are off and strange, as well as the carbonation issue, it does not make for a good experience.

Poured from 12oz bottle into 16oz Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Appearance: Pours deep amber in color with a large, slowly dissipating off-white head that leaves behind thick rings and spots of lace.

Smell: Mostly sweet malts- caramel and sweet grain. Slight floral hop and more caramel sweetness in the finish, but this lacks the hop aromas a great IPA should have.

Taste: Begins with lots of buttery sweetness and a sweet apple flavor, finishing with more sweet apple and a balanced hop flavor that rounds out into toasty bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with sharp carbonation up front and a rather watery finish.

Drinkability: This really isn't a bad beer overall, but it lacks the hop punch a good IPA should have. While I'd say it is still worth a try, it may be better for developing palates and can't quite pack the hop punch that most BAs would enjoy, I'd be willing to drink this again, though it definitely isn't the first IPA I'd reach for if other choices were available.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance - This poured a gorgeous orangish-brown in color with a firm off-white head and looks more like a double.

Smell - The dry-hopping gives this ale a nice, resiny nose but it falls short of the killer PacNW claim on the website. The Columbus isn't huge but is very clean. The malt though forms a nice backbone. It's lightly toasted and just the right level of sweetness to balance out the bouquet.

Taste - This gets serious at the taste. The malts lose some of their sweetness and the toasty aspect really comes out. The hops surprisingly hold their own and show a bit more spicing. All this come together making the flavor profile raw and a bit rough, which I like.

Mouthfeel - This is short of medium-bodied which is no surprise as our southern states like to keep their beers "wet". The feeling in between the cheeks is smooth but the flavors don't blend particularly well together. The carbs are right on though.

Drinkability - This is a big beer for that neck of the woods and they didn't make this one with kid's gloves. There's just enough drying though to keep one gulping.

Pours a very clear golden amber color with a decent sized off white to light brown head.

The head fades away into a decent lacing giving off the aroma of some hops mixed with a light roasted caramel smell.

Light roasted caramel is evenly blended with the hops to give a nice well blended taste. IPA's have become more hops dominant with blends of many types/kinds of hops used to produce a beer, this IPA seems to use more malt with the hops to produce the Jockamo. This beer seems to be more of what pale ales or amber mixes are like now.

There are light amber notes in the dry hops aftertaste which I kinda liked. If your a hop head this beer is a little or maybe even a ton on the weak side but it's a decent beer within itself when/if you compare it to the flood of beers and styles out there on the market.

Abita Jackamo IPA poured a light brown with a hint of orange. The head is thick, lacing the glass immediately with an off white taupe color. Finally some hops from Abita! The nose is very floral but still has some earthy grassy notes to it. It drinks a little flat at first. The presents of hops is what brings this beer to life. The hops are not over powering, most likely the Cajun European influence make this a very light IPA. As an overall beer I would rate it a C+. As an IPA style it drops in rating

Pours a clear, amber color. One inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of floral hops, sweet malt, and slight pine. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, hint of roasted malt, hops, slight pine, and slight yeast. Overall, good appearance, body, and blend.

A- typical IPA coloring, with nice lacing. kept a head for longer than expected.

S- mildly hoppy with grass notes. Surprisingly fruity, much like Il Vicino's Wet-mountain IPA

T- not the hoppiest IPA, but it's not trying to be. a good balance of bitter and fruity flavors, again, much like Wet-mountain IPA. more refreshing than some other IPAs ive had.

M- Nothing unique, nothing bad. An overall smooth feel.

D- an easy IPA to drink while walking around the french quarter midsummer. I would recommend it to most beer fans. Hop-heads might be disappointed in it though.

A- pours a nice amber-gold color with a thin beige head that dissapears quickly with very minimal lacing.

S- not very overpowering at all with hops. piny and citrus hops make up the majority of the hop profile but the sweet caramel malt profile plays to big of a role for my liking

T- similar to the nose. as someone previously mentioned, i would lean this more to a hoppy amber ale. the hop profile again is mainly pine and citrus but the malt comes through wy to much for my liking.

M/D- medium bodied with decent carbonation. easy drinking, but i think they need to rethink their classification on this one.

Had on tap at the brewery.

Dark amber in color, with a semi-beige head. The look is nothing to complain about.

Jockamo on tap is pretty different than in a bottle. On tap it has a very predominant fresh hop aroma with a gentle sweet backbone. They weren't over powering, but definitely made them selves known. I love fresh hops, so this was nearly heaven for me.

Taste was bitter and semisweet with hints of orange and grapefruit. The feel was medium bodied and solid.

Lots of flavor and fair ABV makes this an easy drinker.

Pours a clean orange-ish to copper color with an off white head. In the aroma a small hint of a grapefruity hop, but hoppy nonetheless. In the taste, quite hoppy, but mostly pine. A bitter bite and a thin mouthfeel with a dryer hop aftertaste. Thin with a nice hop presence.

Appetizing appearance. Light copper body with some orange hue towards the outside of the glass. Moderate carbonation and a white thin layer of head stays throughout.

This is on the balanced side for an IPA and ends up inbetween styles. Kind of like an amber mixed with an IPA. It dumbs down the hop presence. They also run into a solid toasted malt bill crushing it even further.

Not a whole lot going on here. The price was less than all the other IPA's in the store. I think they priced it just right. Pass.

I had the opportunity to sample this beer at Taco Mac and was slightly impressed. It would not be my first pick when it comes to an IPA, but for a brand I had not heard too much about, I was happy with the choice.

The beer looked good in the pint glass, with a good head and slightly above average lacing. However, the hop character brought out a sense of yearning for something more. I could have bargained for more lively hops, with more of the Sweetwater Balance. But again, if all beers were created equal we wouldn't have this site..

Overall, I would say that its a little better than average for an IPA, but nothing spectacular
