This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Real Louisiana Satsumas, golden wheat, oats and the finest barley create Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit. Pale and cloudy, like the haze on a hot summer day, this white beer has a sweet and subtle citrus flavor with a touch of spice that is cool and refreshing.

Pours clouded light golden with a rich, fluffy white head that thins and stays. Some trailing lace sticks, though most slides down.

The smell is of... satsuma. Don't recall ever having that particular fruit, but if's it related to a peach, I suppose that's it! It's not overwhelming, allowing wheat tang, coriander and orange peel to come through. It has a refreshing warm day smell.

The taste is bready, fruity (satsuma I'm assuming again) with coriander. There's quite the peppery character to it, but like the fruit, not overdone. Finishes crisp and refreshingly dry.

It could be a bit more effervescent, but it is crisp and light-bodied, without being watery or fizzy.

This shows that American fruit beers don't have to have that artificial juice quality to them. It keeps a witbeer outline while providing a nice, refreshing fruit twist. A nice spring/ summer refresher here!

Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit beer. 5.1% alcohol content.

A- Pours a golden highly hued fluid that produces fluffy head that fall to a froth around the rim of the glass. In sunlight shows massive particals floating in this unfiltered wheat beer.

S- The scent is of a summer day in the wheat fields... fresh yeast is noticed first with a heavy note of unmalted wheat and barley. Mild alcoholic scent show at end of nose.

T-M- Taste is of fresh wheat and yeast mild backbone of citus notes with some alcoholic charactor. Medium body for a wheat beer that only shows a nice presence on the tongue with light carbonation.

D- Excellent drinkablity and great for summer cookouts or just a cool down sipper.

12 ounce bottle, I find no bottling/freshness info. Typical Wit look, clouded, dull tangerine, off white head that rapidly went to a film and left better then decent amounts of scattered lace after a gentle swirl. Bananas, oranges and yeast in the nose. Not a bad little wit, more orange picked up, juxtaposed with a moderate almost resiny hop balancing presence. Nothing special going on here. Respectable Wit, did a nice job cutting through the strong flavors of the peanut noodles with chicken that I enjoyed this brew with. Support NOLA/the Gulf....Buy Abita

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, caution light yellow in color, cloudy, high carbonation

Smell: wheat, grass, and sour tangerines--could that be satsuma

Taste: sour fruit that is like grapefruit juice, wheat and orange

Mouthfeel: light body and high carbonation, sweetish start with an over the top bitter middle that gets slightly less bitter

Drinkability: My least favorite of the Abita Harvest series. This one is a sipper because the bitterness takes over this beer--which I cannot get over. There are some elements in there that remind me of a saison which I like. I like Abita's creativity here. I would not rush to get this again, but if passed to me, I would not turn it down either.

This brew poured a slightly hazy straw color with a thin bit of foam that stays around the edges of the glass throughout.

Strong medicinal smell almost a eucalyptus quality also some fresh cut wheat or alfalfa, and some small notes of tropical fruit. Smell is subtle at first and as the beer warms it really opens up. Best quality of the brew is the smell.

Taste and mouthfeel is not as exciting as the smell. Not bad at all a tingly carbonation and a little on the thin side.

drinkability - real easy drinking beer. Not sure the ABV but this went down nice and smooth. If only I had another.

Abita is a classic brewery that always manages to get things right, and this is no exception. Not a huge wow factor beer, but like most everything Abita you know its going to be consistent and quality.

This will complete my reviews from the Harvest series, sometimes it's easy to overlook Abita beers. This pours a glowing slightly hazed orange pale golden hue with a bright white flowing head. Fine spread even lacing looks great in my Gulden Draak chalice. Nose is full of citrus fruit with some mild spices and herbal hops bringing a very light aspect to the brew. Flavor is super interesting some cereal grains and soft oat notes with a bready yeast flavor that really makes the beer along with real Louisina Satsuma, mild spices set a nice pace of flavor. This is really good even with some bitter citrus peel working in and out, mouthfeel is medium bodied nice full carbonation slightly creamy texture from the oat additions. 100% enjoyment nothing offensive here this beer screams summer next time it's a whole sixer.

12 oz bottle served in a pint glass.

Even with brown glass I could see plenty of sediment in the bottom of this bottle. Not being adverse to this I gave it a little swirl then poured all but the last bit into my glass. This produced a nice thick head (keeping the appearance rating from hitting 1), but with all sorts of unappetizing whitish particles floating about. I then poured this thru a strainer into another glass, and ended up with something that looked palatable, with a light yellow gold hazy liquid crowned with a generous head.

The aroma of a fruity, spicy and yeasty witbier matches the flavor. Neither is very robust. It does taste better than it smells, and there are no serious flaws in the flavor. The finish and aftertaste are the best aspects, being nicely fruity (mainly orange) and modestly wheaty.

The mouthfeel is light and bit watery, even for this style. Despite the indication provided by the ample head, I felt this could use more carbonation.

This is drinkable and somewhat refreshing ale, but a beer I'll probably avoid in the future.

I've tried this beer at a couple of different temperatures and in all cases I was very disappointed. The pour generated a decent tight bubbled head but this dissapated quite quickly.

The look is a pale yellow semi-cloudy with a some carbonation.

I looked forward to a fruitly spicy nose and found just a faint vague aroma.

The body is very thin even for a summer wit.

The finish is totally undistinguished with only the remnant of the vague nose lingering to provide any real taste.

I've always found Abita brews to be pretty good, although not up their reputation, but this one is just not at all impressive and one that I wouldn't recommend. I hope it's because I have a bad six-pack and not what everyone else is getting.

I bought this one because I had no idea what a satsuma was. The apperance is a nice fuzzy orange color that is hazy. The smell is vague hops with a strange bitter smell that was off to me. Sweet taste but then melllows to quick to a earthy bitter that doesn't mix well. Aftertaste is decent but nothing amazing. Just not impressed but I want to try a satsuma to see how Mich flavor was in it
