Found a bottle in the fridge letover from a six pack decided to review it fresh :
12 oz, no best by date marked
A-totally black at the center, amber red glow at the edges of glass. finger foam off white head dissipates to thin foam which laces down somewhat.
S- roasted chocolates in the first foam, then more mellow roasted tones tangy hop scent comes out more as it warms.
T- nutty roasted malt flavors first, not as chocolatey as scent. good hop bitterness to compliment, finishes on a slight hoppy bite in the back of the mouth with malt on tongue.
M- feels creamy at first sip but this is a very carbonated beer, not clingy but the tastes linger nicely after gone. for me, it would have been a GREAT beer with less carbonation.
O- I can almost always find this in six packs and i enjoy a darker beer often so this is totally drinkable (i've drank through the rest of six pack on another night). Its a very good beer and Abita hasn't dissapointed me yet.

Sampled at the brewery in the tasting room before a brewery tour today.
Dark brown with ruby highlights, almost cola in colour. Light brown head is dense and has staying power. Gobs of lacing down the sides.
Rich malts in the aroma. Fruit cake, chocolate, coffee.
Flavour is the same as the aroma. Rich and smooth, full bodied with moderate carbonation. Gives you the impression of a dense loaf of bread with touches of chocolate and coffee.
This one would be great on a cold winter night.
