Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate toffee-like flavor. Turbodog began as a specialty ale but has gained a huge loyal following and has become one of our flagship brews.

Appearance – This one poured a nice, deep brown in color with a huge head. The head showed great retention and followed the liquid as I emptied the glass.

Smell – This has a soft roasty malt backbone along with quite a bit of brown sugar. I can also pick up some mild coffee notes.

Taste – The roasty smell gives way to a lighter, toasted kind of maltiness. The brown sugar is more on the mild side here and the coffee is perceptible but almost gone.

Mouthfeel – This Brown Ale is almost medium-bodied with little hop bitterness and a light, sugary finish.

Drinkability – One of the better American attempts at the English Brown Ale style. I really enjoyed this offering from Abita. Not a traditional EBA, but very tasty.

Comments – Thanks to BigLove for sending this one cross-country. This is the sleeper of the Abita line.

A bit of smoke when opened, heart of darkness black in color, a ton of head, extremely subtle chocolate smell on the nose, bitter and chocolatey in taste, intense flavor. Very delicious!

12 ounce bottle poured into a Spiegelau wheat beer glass.

L: Medium brown and clear, one finger tan head has good retention and leaves spots of foam on the glass.
S: Caramel and nutty malt to open, spicy hops and metallic note after the initial malty aroma fades.
T: Caramel and roasted malt up front, spicy and woody hops on the back, lightly sweet, mildly bitter.
F: Medium body is crisp up front, finishes creamy and more smoothly.
O: All around good Brown Ale.

Dark brown in color. Tan-ish head was forced then poof disappeared. Nose is bready. Taste was horehound candy or rootbeer. Slight bitterness on back of palate. Decent beer.

Pours a dark brown color with a minimal head that lasts quite a while. Aroma of caramel and roasted malts. Taste is sweet vanilla, coffee and roasted malts. Smooth and creamy and not overly bitter at the finish.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Deep chestnut brown, with a tan three-finger head. Good retention and lacing. Aromas and flavors of roasty malt, caramel, chocolate, dark bread, and dried fruit. Lots of pleasant bitterness on the palate. Great carbonation, medium bodied. This finishes dry with a lingering hint of sourness. Pleasant sipper, good with food. Recommended.

1/30/2023 - Coffee colored, not much head; The flavor is mild and unremarkable; The mouthfeel is not bad. The Turbodog package is more appealing that the actual beer.

3/6/2023 - a decent tan head that receded into a cap, looked pretty good, raised look score to 4.0. The mouthfeel also was pretty good, raised feel score .25 to 4.0

Taste is nutty, light caramel, light roastiness, coffee, light hops.

Medium body, light carbonation. dry finish.
