Poured from a bottle into a New Belgium snifter. The pour is pretty clear and dark brown in color with red highlights. It sports a nice 2-3 fingers of fluffy off-white foam that has some really nice retention. On the nose I get some nice sweet, malty notes of caramel and nuts. There is also a faint hoppy spiciness, but it's properly subdued.
The beer has a medium body and mild malty flavor. The feel is a bit thin, but there are no objectionable flavors and no overabundance of hops. Up front are some nice toasty notes, toffee, and cola and at mid-palate a little bit of balancing hoppy bitterness comes in and provides a pleasant coffee-like flavor. The finish is slightly dry and underwhelming and there aren't a lot of lingering flavors, just a trace of bitterness.
Overall, a nicely-constructed brown ale that achieves a nice balance between sweet and bitter. I feel it could use a bit more malt flavor up front, but it's not bad at all.
