Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate toffee-like flavor. Turbodog began as a specialty ale but has gained a huge loyal following and has become one of our flagship brews.

A: Dark brown body, nearly black. Light tan fluffy head that stands up and leaves good lacing.

S: Loads of precious coffee-house and bakery smells. Smells like coffee, a bit of chocolate, some toffee, fresh baked bread, and caramel. Really smells good.

T: The flavor is a light roasted bitterness, a hint of charcoal, and a tad of toffee and caramel flavor. It's not very strong...there is a sweetness to it but it is very mellow. I'd say that the roasted flavors dominate more.

M: The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of medium, and a bit watery. Easy to drink.

O: Overall it's a really good beer. Some of the flavors aren't as pronounced as they smell, and roasted bitterness dominates overall. It might even be a bit too bitter, but it is a tasty mellow beer. It's not something I'd rave about, but I would like to drink it again.

Poured dark brown with a thick creamy mocha head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate with a hint of vanilla. The flavor is of unsweetened dark chocolate and coffee, not very hoppy which is a plus, not real complex but a good flavor none the less. To me this is a good solid dark beer, but nothing really stands out to put it in the superior category.

Poured from a bottle (undated)

Appearance: a nearly opaque reddish-brown. The thick tan, two-finger head stayed for quite a while.

Aroma: nice - very strong chocolate with some hops.

Taste: like the aroma but with the addition of a subtle toasty, bready component.

Mouthfeel: rather sharp - but not unpleasant - carbonation. Medium light body.

Overall: a deep but not overly complex brew. The hops are understated in the presence of the rich coffee flavor.

Bottle > Lagunitas Mason Jar
A - Pours a really dark dark brown, vanilla colored 1 finger head, medium thickness, good lacing.
S - Dark, semi-roasted malts, vanilla, toffee, chocolates, and a kinda odd metallic (?) smell
T - You get those roasted flavors, not like a nut brown, but some dark malts.
M - Kinda thin, feels more like a black lager with the dark flavors hanging on.
O - A good brew from Abita, that I used to think more of, but after revisiting it a few times, its not as great as i once thought it was, still for the price, its a good choice.

Pours black with ruby edges and a thick brown colored head that laces the glass.

Roasted malt with dark fruit and a bit of hop.

A nice coffee, caramel and roasted grain flavor with some sweet chocolate and hop. The beer seems like it would be bitter, but the sweetness is maintained throughout. Finishes with a chocolate and hop flavor.

Medium body and velvet smooth.

I really like this beer. Definitely a go to beer for a fall or winter day.

Abita was one of the first micros available in my area -- lo these many years ago. I haven't had it in a while, but was inspired by one of my cousins who said he drinks it all the time and really enjoys it -- mind you, this from a converted BMC drinker.

12 ounce stubby, no visible bottling or best-by date on the label.

Northern, or Southern English Brown..?

A -- Clear, deep chestnut brown with a very substantial, dense, tan head.

S -- Nice balance of chocolate and roasted malts, some toasted nut character with warming.

T -- Milk chocolate character up front that blends into mellow roasted malts. Some very mellow citrus fruitiness toward the finish, the mellow roasted malt follows through in the afertaste.

M -- Mouthfeel is Smooth and creamy with a medium to lightly heavy body.

O -- Based on guidelines, this beer straddles Northern & Southern English Brown characteristics -- and the drinker is the winner. A very smooth, mellow, yet robust beer. Great balance of sweet and roasted malts. If you crave a Brown and this is available, give it a go.

Poured from a 12ox bottle into a pint glass

A - dark brown with a 3 inch sturdy off-white head

S - straw, roasted malts, slight hoppiness, some dark fruits possibly, something is sweet

T - straw, roasted malts, slight hoppiness, dark fruits and sweetness at the end.

M - light bodied, maybe needs a little more carb, slightly watery for a brown.

Overall - not a bad beer, worth a try. but pretty average brown ale in my opinion
