Notes/Commercial Description:
Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with raspberry puree added after filtration. Therefore, you may see raspberry pulp in the beer. The raspberries provide the lager with a subtle purple coloration and haze, a fruity aroma, and a tartly sweet taste.

Served in a Weizen glass.

A: Poured a straw-pale yellow with tints of pink and a two-fingered, dense white head that receded quickly and left only spotty lace on the glass. The color is quite unimpressive.

S: Sweet raspberry puree with some pale wheat malts underlying it. I wish the overall aroma was a bit stronger, but it's still decent for a fruit beer.

T&M: It's a rather dull flavor. Weak wheat malts make their appearance, blended with some raspberry flavor. It's a sweet beer, but not in the fruity sense. It doesn't offend, but isn't anything special. I've met a few fruit beers that did the former, so I can't dock it too much. Purple Haze is light-bodied and somewhat watery with medium carbonation. The finish is almost non-existent, as well. Disappointing mouthfeel.

D: Well, it goes down so damn easy that it has to be at least a 4. There just isn't a ton of flavor here, however. It's smooth, but only because there isn't anything that can be off-putting about it.

I was very surprised with this one! Usually I don't go for flavored beers because they tend to be very sugary. However, this one seems to have that perfect balance! Its amber colored with a white foamy head and looks great. My first smell I assumed it was going to be very sugary because it seemed very sweet and had light raspberry tones. Luckily I was proven wrong! Its light to medium bodied and has a great fruity feel finishing with strong notes of malts and wheat. Its well balanced and layered wonderfully!

Sampled last night on 7/6/14 and and had this once before back in 2012. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a pilsner flute glass.

pours golden amber in color with a small white head. Some spotty lacing is seen but not a lot. The aroma is is of wheat and raspberries. the taste is the same actually with the perfect blend of bot the raspberries and wheat, where not one was over powering at all. Not as sweet as you might thing and finished with a slight tangy finish. Overall a tasty brew!

A - amber and golden when poured into glass, some lacing

S - raspberry, wheat, yeast, all very subtle and not overpowering

T - wheat and raspberry are the only two tastes that I can really detect. They are balanced with neither overpowering the other.

M - watery in the mouth, light bodied, crisp, drinkable

O - Average beer, not too much taste or aromas going on. The raspberry is present but is not overpowering which is probably a good thing. Easy to drink. But not something I would go out of my way to have.

Poured bottle into glass. 4.2% abv. 10/5/14 freshness date.

Appearance- Bright orange in color and crystal clear clarity. White foamy two-finger head that dissipates fairly quick.

Smell- Grainy malts persist with a touch of cooked vegetable aroma. Maybe a very slight hint of rasberries in the nose but not much.

Taste- A dry typical corn lager taste. Some tartness associated with fruit but this is lacking. Good amounts of wheat malt with some caramel malt mixed in as well with a honey like finish.

Mouthfeel- Thin, as a lager should be. A bit too watery. Well carbonated.

Overall- This is a fairly decent lager, however it does not live up to its name. There should be more fruit flavor and a bit more sweetness. The label goes as far as to say you may even see some fruit pulp...I'm not buying that. Mildly refreshing. Could use improvement.
