Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with raspberry puree added after filtration. Therefore, you may see raspberry pulp in the beer. The raspberries provide the lager with a subtle purple coloration and haze, a fruity aroma, and a tartly sweet taste.

I'm not a fan of this brew. It's got a nice color, hazy dark wheat ale but it's a bit lacking in overall flavor - I prefer something like Founders Rubaeus here. Not bad, but not one I seek out. (195 characters)

Third from my Abita party pack. Pours a "hazy" wheat color into a pint glass with a very thick white head which quickly recedes. Aroma strongly consists of raspberries, also detect a blueberry note althought not advertised. Taste has hints of raspberry, wheat, and very slight hop with little or no malty taste. Not what I'd call a pilsner but nice and fruity. Over all decent but lacking too much of the beer standards in flavor and aroma to surpass that. If you like this try Wild Blue, another fruity beer which does better what thos one tries to. (555 characters)

Overall not a bad beer, definitely has the raspberry taste, but a slight bitterness after, and has a slight purple tinge to it visually. Definitely a summer beer, as it is very light, almost too light. I would definitely drink it again. (238 characters)

This American wheat ale has raspberries added to it after it is brewed and filtered. It pours to a fairly brief large white head on a cloudy pale amber body that has purple off-tints. Raspberry dominates a slightly sweet nose; it dominates the palate as well, manifesting as bitter fruit notes that obscure a light wheat backbone. The finish is fairly crisp with a hint of raspberry that fades to a briefly lingering bitter fruit note. Thanks to the raspberry puree, the mouthfeel is bigger than one would expect for a wheat beer. (530 characters)

I really enjoyed my time with this beverage, though I would say I am a person who enjoys those beers that try to mask the beer taste lol. I have found I really enjoy this with my dinners where the food is the star. 4/5 (218 characters)

Not remotely close to a traditional German Hefeweizen by any means, but great fruity aroma and flavor makes Purple Haze an excellent wheat beer none the less. (158 characters)

Had this on draft in a restaurant. While it is a pleasant looking wheat beer, it didn't have a discernible smell, which I expected. The raspberry really comes through in the taste but the finish was quite bitter. Maybe it wasn't a good barrel but something wasn't quite right. I'll try it in a bottle to see how it compares (327 characters)

Nice blend of wheat and berry favors, finishing dry with a refreshing level of carbonation. Raspberry flavor present in a tart, not overly sweet manner. Excellent warm weather beer, very sessionable and with a relatively low ABV, not overpowering. (247 characters)

I found it hard to get used to the cloyingly sweet sour raspberry aroma. The taste was much milder on the fruity side. An intersting brew, but not one that I found too special. The light feel and fruity taste makes it feel like a wine cooler. (242 characters)

Sweet lager brewed with real raspberries added after filtration. It is brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops. The berries add a fruity aroma, tartly sweet taste and a subtle purple color and haze...you may see fruit pulp in the beer. (249 characters)

Didn't know what to expect. On tap. Excellent looking, cloudy brew. Pale amber hue with swimmies... not much to the nose. Hint of raspberry aroma, but faint. Hint of wet cardboard on the palate. (194 characters)

The color of grapefruit and the taste of raspberries. This beer is fruity, but not to the point of overwhelming the other ingredients. Other than the color, I didn't notice the pulpiness. The hops are only slightly bitter, which is good for this beer. Not too bad for a fruit beer. (285 characters)

Yum!

At the forefront is a standard witbier, rich with nice biscuity sweetness; then the raspberry follows in the aftertaste.

Points taken off for chunky appearance from the raspberry pulp, and for a deceivingly mild smell.

I prefer Founder's Rubaeus over this one, but I will admit this one is much more complex; it actually tastes like BEER, with some fruit added. Whereas the Rubaeus has no subtlety at all, simply overwhelming the tongue with fruity sweetness. (Though in a pleasantly tart way, thus my preference.) (522 characters)

One of my absolute favorite session beers. Light malt, slightly sweet with a hint of fruit, balanced flavor, great on a hot summer day or with almost any meal. (160 characters)

Many thanks to Alanna and Richard for this beer.

A: A dirty yellow color, indeed with chunks of raspberry in it. A large white head on top of this brew.

S: Honey, graham crackers, and raspberry. It smells like toast and jam.

T: Crisp with light toast notes, and a tart raspberry flavor. The finish rounds out the berry flavor, but ends on a watery note.

M: Light in body, with moderate carbonation. Slightly watery, with a tingly finish.

O: Overall a refreshing easy to drink beer, but I think on a hot day I'm reaching for a session IPA, or a lower gravity Belgian. (579 characters)

Probably be a pretty damn solid session brew for a pool day. Fruit is light in flavor and adds just enough to change the dynamic of this. Seems like a solid base beer, good malt back and crisp on the mouth. Decent little brew. (226 characters)

A: Cloudy orange with a purple tint to it. Large white head, little spotty lacing

S: Malts, adjunct grains, raspberry in background

T: Sweet malts and adjunct grains, subtle hint of fruity raspberry, little hop bitterness at end

M: Light, good carbonation

O: Basically a light American lager with some raspberries thrown in. This is not a bad thing just what it is. I like picking this up from time to time to have on hot days. (431 characters)

honestly this beer smelled horrible. like somebody got sick. had two already and both were the same so it wasn't just an off beer. it pours a pale lavender color almost no head. taste is fruit and berries at first then malt and clove and that artificial banana type flavor you get in some wheats, which I like, but the combination of that with the berries makes it almost undrinkable for me. I'll finish the six but will never think about buying this again. (457 characters)

I Tasted this in New Orleans
A. Clear, 2.1 minutes foam.
S. A lot of Fruit, sweet.
T. Fruits, cherry, a little bit of weizen beer, fruit, wine, drinkable.
AT. Good at the end, light, the strong taste of fruit disappear. (219 characters)

Pours a cloudy yellow orange color with bits floating in it, which I assume are the fruit bits the label says you may see. Has a decent sized white head that quickly dissipates, leaving lacing across the surface.

Smell is mostly sweet, reminds me a bit of the smell of a fruit soda.

Taste starts with malty sweetness, then the taste of the raspberries comes in. Has a lingering sweetness at the end.

Feel is very much on the bubbly side due to high carbonation.

Basically a decent beer, but not much else. I do like the fact that they tried something different here, but nothing really stands out as being outstanding. Would be a good beer for a hot day, other than that, nothing overly outstanding. (703 characters)

I had this once at a craft beer expo and I liked it. So I'm reviewing a bottle of it now.

It looks : copper colored body with a rose tint. First pour was transparent, second pour later on was hazed. Head is fluffy and flat white, 2 fingers tall and then 1. Not much lace left behind as decoration.

It smells : Very much like arbor mist or a raspberry wine cooler. Perhaps a Canada dry, too. There's not much in the way of hop or malt, just a sweet, artificial raspberry. Very one noted.

It tastes : the malts come out more in the taste with wheat, and the raspberry takes a back seat with a shallow two dimensional quality. There's only a vague hint of hop. Not much to write about.

It feels : Light body yielding into a creamy medium texture, with a buzzing carbonation underneath and a slightly Pilsner-esque finish.

Overall : somewhat underwhelming but still fairly tasty. I'd have it again but it's nothing exciting. (927 characters)

Appearance: very pale yellow. Visible carbonation. Fluffy 2 finger white head

Smell: wet cardboard and fake raspberries. Some biscuit malt.

Taste: basically tastes like an aal but overly sweet with fake rasberries. Finishes off all raspberry

Mouthfeel: bright carbonarion. Very light bodied

Overall: won't drink again, perfect beer for the type of person who would normally drink twisted yea or Mikes hard over beer. (422 characters)

My husband bought me this and I was like UHHHH Thanks I guess grape beer! Well he told me it was raspberry which I love and was still thinking gross sweet syrupy. Nope I was wrong. It was a light raspberry taste, great for summer. Very drinkable. Drank a bunch and now I need more! (281 characters)

For a much better raspberry beer, try Founders Rubaeus (spelling's off, because the "u" has the German umlaut, and the a & e are combined in the old Latin "aesc", but you can find it searching Founders brewery). (211 characters)

Reviewing this as a raspberry lager. Nice golden color with little head. Smells like slightly sour raspberries. Smooth balanced lager with a good tart tartness from the raspberries. Easy drinker that is exactly what it is labeled. (233 characters)
