Notes/Commercial Description:
Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with raspberry puree added after filtration. Therefore, you may see raspberry pulp in the beer. The raspberries provide the lager with a subtle purple coloration and haze, a fruity aroma, and a tartly sweet taste.

I CAN't believe that I am only the second person to review this from a CAN! Memorial Day 2012 rolls on!

The head was still a pinkish-white, but retention was much lower in this case. Color was a deeper reddish-amber, but not as hazy as from a bottle. Nose was still filled with raspberry, but not as cloying as from a bottle. Mouthfeel was about the same - slightly on the thin side. The taste was not as prevalent as from a bottle, more muted. Finish also lacked some of the oomph that the bottle imparted. Bottom line: if somewhere that both are available, go for bottle or draft, but if hiking, camping, going to the beach, reach for the CANned version. That, or if they begin putting fresh puree in CANs, then it will render the point moot.

Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: straight amber, head was thick at first thanks to the bartender. White head rose to maybe a full inch, drifting to ad settling to nothing.

Smell: smells uh a little like candy if you ask me,

Taste: little sour, no its not my first time having this but it's like a sweet sour that is light of the hop taste but sweet and sour.

Mouth: medium but not too sticking.

Overall: I bought a pint just to review it and honestly not worth my time nor yours. It looks good taste maybe alright but I have had much better from Abita not to mention better "fruit" beers. Salud!

I happened to notice recently that I'd never done a review of this long time favorite. Then a few days later, I saw bottles at a local store. Yes! Time to tick this one! Poured int straight pint glass. The beer poured a medium gold color, with a definite reddish-puple tint. The beer had just a very thin ring of off-white head that had no retention or lacing.

The aroma is certainly raspberry forward, with some grainy malts showing up underneath. The taste is pretty much the same, a basic "beer" taste with the fruit being upfront, without being overpowering or cloying.

The body is good, smooth, easy, clean, and nicely carbonated, but as sticky-sweet as you might expect. Drinkability is very good to excellent, you could, and I have, drink these all day long on a sunny summers day. Overall, a very nice brew when your in the mood for a light, refreshing brew. Worth your time.
