Notes/Commercial Description:

Whole natural vanilla beans are added during the aging process. This combination provides a rich body and color with chocolate, vanilla and toffee-like flavor.

Nice to see Abita mark their anniversary with a new "big" beer.Pouredinto an imperial nonic a murky deep chesnut brown with a great tannish colored one finger head that held well.Light molasses and vanilla in the nose, not real assertive but nice, flavors are of sweet caramel/vanilla with a light shot of peppery spice wich was different,it dried out pretty well in the finish. Not great but its a good drinker, congrats Abita on 25 years!

Cask pour at the Birdsall Hse. in Peekskill, NY

Pour is dark brown with a minor medium tah head. Leaves some low sheeting and minor bits of lacing.

what little I pick up with the old sniffer is just some sweet malts.

Easy drinking ale, with pleasingly low, typical cask carbonation. Notes of vanilla, more malts, milk chocolate, and some lite smoke. Dry finish, nothing amazing, but decent enough brew. Worth a try.

Poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

Appearance: 1 inch head, moderate carbonation, dark brown in color, opaque

Smell: roasted malt and cream

Taste: roasted malt at the start, vanilla that comes in the middle and a creaminess at the end

Mouthfeel: sweetish with a slightly bitter backbone, moderate carbonation, medium-light bodied

Overall: I liked this beer. It was more of a clean, fun and playful take for a 25th anniversary beer as opposed to a big high abv bomb. The vanilla really comes out as the beer warms. I would certainly get this again.

Appearance- Very dark brown with an amber hue at the bottom of the glass. One finger of tan head. Great looking beer.

Smell- Very pedestrian...almost no scent at all.

Taste- Bitter chocolate and toffee, just as the bottle claims.

Mouthfeel- Great coating, kinda like Guiness, but a bit thinner.

Overall- A drinkable beer...A huge letdown for a 25th anniversary beer. This is a one-time affair for me.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Thanks shan8454 for the trade!

Appearance: Very dark red color with about one finger of white head, mild lacing on the glass.

Smell: Faint scents, fruity maybe some malts and coffee like notes.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Very Smooth medium bodied. Taste was more watery than expected with very subtle toasted malts, cherry like fruit flavor, hint of coffee notes and mild vanilla bean.

Overall: Not what I expected from this brew, but not bad at all. I enjoyed this one.

Mahogany brown, nearly black and impenetrable to light. Just a wisp of foam. Just a hint of dark malt on the nose. Honestly there's not much aroma here. Caught a hint of vanilla on some later attempts. Dark malt on the forefront and a quick follow up of some vanilla in the aftertaste.

I have pretty limited experience, considering that I'm only 23.

However this is the best beer I've had so far. Second best would probably be Red Stripe.

I guess my taste is weird though. I have Brooklyn Oktoberfest in the fridge right now, and I think it's good but not great, while I'd consider this one great.

Appearance is dark almost black with light brown highlights when held toward the light. Head is light khaki tan head with fine even scattered lacing. Aroma has dark chocolate malts with hints of cocoa and dark fruits and a touch of vanilla in the background. Flavor is a warming sweet dark roasted malt flavor with hints of vanilla and a dry semi bitter sweet chocolate finish. Herbal hops coming out the backend definitely not a hop heavy experience. The taste is a bit one dimensional but the price was right and it definitely has enough flavor to keep me interested. Mouthfeel is medium bodied even carbonation, nothing cloying or too sticky actually drinks pretty well. Alcohol is well hidden no harshness or booze burning the palate. Overall I would take their 20th Anniversary Pils over this but not a bad beefier version of Turbodog.

(Served in a snifter)

A- This beer has a dark black body with microbubbles trailing up the sides. There is a thick tan bubbly head on top that last a good bit.

S- The soft flinty pale malt blends with chocolate notes and a touch or black roasted malt underneath. The finish has vanilla hints with a gentle green hop character that starts to push through as the beer opens.

T- The taste of chocolate tootsie rolls is rich with some vanilla cream note to follow. There are some chocolate malt flavors but they remain in the background.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a tight fizz finish but no alcohol heat.

O- This beer has some nice light character with a good chocolate and vanilla flavor making it very sessionable even for the 7 % ABV. It reminds me of a chocolate cream soda without as much carbonation.

Poured from about an inch above the glass gave this beer a pretty good sized light brown head above a clear very dark reddish brown colored beer.

A light film/lacing cover this beer throughout drinking with a decent sized lacing hugging the glass above this medium to light full bodied beer.

Roasted caramel malts with light vanilla and a small amount of chocolate and alcohol aroma.

Caramel malts, vanilla, and chocolate covered cherries taste.

A lingering dry aftertaste with some of the vanilla and roasted malt remaining.

The alcohol in the aroma seems to be more prevalent as the beer sits and warms a bit.

This beer kind of grew on me as I drank the 22 ounce bomber, might have been the alcohol.

As a fan of brown ales I was looking forward to this one especially with it being a 25th Anniversary offering.

It poured a nice, rich brown with very little head. Smell was malty and slightly sweet with hints of cocoa and the promised vanilla.

The taste was nice and rich, much like the regular Turbodog but with an extra level of depth and complexity. The vanilla comes across more as a wood spice like that of a whiskey than that from a vanilla bean.

Overall it was a good but not great offering. I would definitely drink it again. The taste is nice and the price is right.
