Notes/Commercial Description:
Turbodog is the inspiration for this robust dark ale. It is brewed with generous amounts of pale, caramel, and chocolate malts and Willamette hops. Whole natural vanilla beans are added during the aging process. This combination provides a rich body and color with chocolate, vanilla and toffee-like flavor.

Translucent auburn brown with a thick cap of tan suds that leaves smears of lacing.
The aroma is primarily chocolately, both fudgey sweet and cocoa powder dry. A touch of pecan nuttiness, and a squeal of vanilla dots the background.
Chocolately again as it hits the tongue. It hits with a big, sweet fudge brownie, with it's cakey, sticky mouthfeel. It dries a tad over time, with the cocoa powder appearing, along with traces of nuts. Vanilla hits late and lingers through the swallow, along with a bit of astringency when served too cold (though it mostly disappears with warmth and/or time).
Full bodied with a low trickle of CO2. It teeters on the cloying edge, but doesn't really cross it.
Turbo Dog has never been a favorite of mine and this isn't either, though it the better of the two. Vanilla Doubledog hangs heavy in the mouth, and, while different and bigger, the vanilla helps cloak a few things I probably wouldn't like anyway.

This is possibly the best Abita beer I've had so far. Dark chestnut, almost black, it has a creamy tan head slowly shrinking.

Aroma is rich darkyl toasty, caramelly barley, hints of vanilla, prunes, hint of coffee.

Taste is nice, rich dark toasted caramelised grain (strong), prunes, hint of coffee candy, vanilla, wood, balanced gently but firm bitterness and sweetness. It is highly enjoyable and easy to drink.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains roasted malts, maple, vanilla, caramel and some hops but it’s also a bit metallic.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of citrus maple, caramel and vanilla. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solid darker-than-average brown ale to drink for a long time if you’re in the mood for the style.
