Pours mahogany with 3 fingers of mocha colored head after a vigirous pour. Above average head retention & lacing
S: Nutty, brown bread, musty grainl all faded as this warms
T: Follows the nose plus some vanilla cream soda & grainyness up front. Dryness, vanilla & nuttyness (some hazel nut in there to be sure) all mix well as this warms, just a tad of herbal hop bitterness too. Finishes dry, grainy & with much vanilla sweetness
MF: Medium bodied, creamy carbonation, a bit too sweet balance-wise
A pretty good brown; definetly impeoved as it warmed, a bit dryer than I like my browns as a rule. Tasty but a bit too sweet to have more than one a sitting

Had this on tap. Review from notes. Poured quite dark amber, with an off white foamy head. Big, sweet, vanilla, caramel, hint of toffee, pretty dark and tasty. The oak comes through more in the finish. Again, pretty sweet beer but not too cloying. I get a good earthy hop finish.

This is possibly the best Abita beer I've had so far. Dark chestnut, almost black, it has a creamy tan head slowly shrinking.
Aroma is rich darkyl toasty, caramelly barley, hints of vanilla, prunes, hint of coffee.
Taste is nice, rich dark toasted caramelised grain (strong), prunes, hint of coffee candy, vanilla, wood, balanced gently but firm bitterness and sweetness. It is highly enjoyable and easy to drink.
