Pours a great golden hazey color into my pint at Bulldog Midcity, NOLA. Great banana clove and malt aromas. Taste is very very amazing...surprisingly amazing and full of perfect hefe flavors and aromas. Really surprised by this brew. Its truly an amazing hefe and full of perfect banana and clove flavor, perfect balance, great feel, some rye bitters,...if you see this brew; get it. Although I am failing to find a real difference with a Roggenbier...

On tap at the Untapped Festival.

Hazy amber in color. The aroma has some wheat and rye notes, but what really comes through is the clove character. The flavor is similar. I get some rye and clove notes, as well as the addition of some banana. The yeast really adds some nice flavors to this beer. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Likely the best Abita beer I have tried.

Growler from Ale Yeah, Roswell, GA. Served in a Westmalle Chalise. (Not because the style lends itself to this vessel. Just cuz I wanted to drink from it.)

A: An orange and butterscotch hue with a bottle finished murkiness. Looks good to a Belgian fan.

S: Less skunky than expected with a hint of bannas and bread and just the slightest citrus scent.

T: This beer starts out a little more complex than I expected. Bready, bannana, buttery notes are up front. Just a hint of wheat hits you in the middle at the top and back of your palate. The back end finishes with a hint of sweet. Though to be honest it is just lacking something. I was hoping for a little more after-taste with a little more wheat and hoppy bite. Just sort of rolls off while my taste buds are waiting for more.

M: Here again it is a little "less" than I expected. There is a smooth and almost creamy feel. I was expecting something, maybe, "different." (Disclaimer: I had a Southern Tier Oak Aged Barleywine before this and it could very well color my opinion.)

O: A good representation of the style. I appreciate the extra 1.5 points in alcohol content above the average for the style, provides some additional "character."

On-tap 9/5/2012 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep amber color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains wheat, bananas, rye malts and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty rye malt character and flavors of wheat and bananas. The hops presence is mild but complementary and provides a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a good beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Another My Place (Newtown, CT) find, this one is a very cloudy murky tan color with a decent white head and a goodly wall of lace. The aroma is interesting with significant clove and bacon and mild citrus-malt highlights. The flavor brings on an intense, sweet grass malt and clove combo with the hint of banana. Very nice and a pleasant surprise for sure. Clove and bright citrus bite dominates with a mellow wheat malt background and just the suggestion of some booze. The body of this brew is medium with a light, crisp feel from tiny bubbles. Drinks nicely though probably not an ideal session beer. Restores my faith in Abita.

Had this while visiting the "brewpub" in downtown Abita Springs.

Probably my favorite Abita beer I've tried.

Rich hazy orange/amber color; quite murky. Slight ring of white head.

Nose is wonderful bananas and clove. Decent malt backbone.

Taste starts out matching the nose - bananas and some spice up front, then some bread and malt. A touch of sweetness, maybe a bit of honey flavors.

Mouthfeel is good. Perhaps just slightly undercarbonated, but barely noticable.

Overall a great beer. Would like to see Abita bottle this.
