My first pumpkin beer for Fall 2014. I've had many a pumpkin beer for this particular one really stood out to me and in a good way. The pumpkin spice notes weren't the strongest. But what I enjoyed most was the lightness and dryness of the beer. It was just different compared to other pumpkin beers which can sometimes come across a bit too sweet or heavy. Personally, I would like the spice notes to be kicked up a notch, but overall a great start to pumpkin beer season.

Tap from Lazy Dog Macon. Pours orange with white head. Aroma of a mild pie and pumpkin. Taste of very mild spices, dough and gourd. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Not good at all. Give this one a pass.

i like this one a lot, more hoppy than the typical pumpkin ale, with a nice grassy bitterness on the back end of it to balance out the pumpkin pie spice complex. it never gets overly intensely spicy here, which in the modern era of pumpkin beers you have to appreciate. its not real squashy either though, just sort of autumnal flavored dark copper beer with a light cardamom type of finish to it and some residual sugars before the hops kick in. not quite what i would call a pumpkin ipa, but its getting there with the bitter finish. its hard to drink a lot of this one, just so bold and robust all over the place, but its definitely a different take on the style. i am always a fan of hopping up a classic, so i dug this one a whole lot.
