Hazy deep amber color with a small off-white head, mildly carbonated with thick lace that throughly coats the glass. Though the head is small, it retains fairly well. A pungent aroma of grapefruit rind is noticeable in the aroma several feet from the glass. Pine sap is also prominent, along with sweet fruit notes. Upon tasting, sweet malts initially dominate, but are swiftly overlaid by the massively bitter grapefruit hops. The sweet molasses-like character of the malt lingers on as an undercurrent to the taste, quelled but never vanquished. Throughout the taste there are also various fruit notes which rise and fall: melon, raisins, berries, and others. Though the alcohol content of this beer is high, even for a barleywine, alcohol notes seem to have only a minimal impact upon the taste. But after drinking half a glass, the presence of the alcohol cannot be doubted. To be handled with due discretion.
