Pours out pretty dark but has brownish-reddish hues coming through the edges. The OOBS has a nice light tan head that resides too quickly. It has a nice roast aroma that has some subtle sweetness coming through also. Lot's of chocolate and coffee Just a touch of hops in the nose.
The flavor is similar to the nose - lot's of roast and chocolate flavors. What is nice about this beer is that the roast character lasts throughout the whole sip...it keeps a consistent profile the whole time...not too much changing. The ABV is right where I like it for my American Stouts (yeah I don't know why this is under Dry Irish Stout...this is NOTHING like a Dry Irish Stout).
The finish is nice and it's super drinkable. I have this in my top 10 - maybe top5 - go-to 6-pack souts (first place going to obsidian stout).
Anyway, great beer and available at a great price. I'm glad that a brewery like Avery that does some extreme stuff also makes traditional beer as well.
