This beer was served in a pub glass.

Appearance: The beer has a black coloration to the body with minimal ruby opaqueness to light. The head has a lightly creamed coffee coloration and rises about 1 1/2 fingers high.

Smell: The smell of pleasingly funky dark roasted coffee rises up to my nose. Bittersweet chocolatey malts float about the smell.

Taste: This beer has a pleasing dark roasted coffee and bitter sweet chocolate flavors. The char notes compliment the charcoal flavors of the beer.

Mouthfeel/ Drinkability: The beers body is sleightly less than medium bodied. The carbonation is on the low side. I would have liked a bit bigger body to this beer. The beer was fairly easy to drink and has been sessioned at my place on numerous occasions.

This pours dark as one would expect with a carmel color foamy head which turns to a small island soon. A ring remains for a while, and leaves stickey foam on the glass.

Smells like coffee. Some hop.

Tastes like coffee. It is a bit coffee bitter. Not much hop nor sweetness to balance.

Mouthfeel is a bit thin with an overtone of creaminess. It has a bit of a watery finish.

Finish is somewhat bitter, leaving a coffee aftertaste.

I think this beer is a little thin, with the coffee flaver a bit strong for the mouthfeel with little to balance it.

Not a favorite stout, i wouldn't refuse one, but if I had a choice i'd find others.

The body is nearly opaque and black with a nice cap of single finger tan head that retained decently and laced very decently. The nose is of coffee with subtle roasting notes, but very, very light.

The flavor is less coffee-like and more roasted malts with light notes of dark chocolate. Very rough around the edges and quite bitter. This brew needs a little refinement!

Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin for such a dark and thick beer. Decent drinkability.

Poured into my Bruery tulip.

Pours out a nice black that flows into my glass nice and dark. No light gets though the body when held to the light. A nice big and fluffy head emerges on the pour. The head is a nice tan and as it recedes leaves some sticky lacing down the sides of the glass. The head eventually settles to a thin layer onto of the beer.

Getting coffee, roast and perhaps some oats out of this one. Some hop notes come out as well. Not very complex but smells nice.

Lot of coffee taste and roast just like the smell. Also so bitterness in the finish that could be from the hops or coffee. The aftertaste is some light coffee flavor that is pleasant. Coffee is for sure the dominate flavor in this one. Much like the smell, this isn't overly complex but it is a good beer.

The body is leaning toward the lighter side. It is still thick enough to do a good job coating the mouth but not the thickest beer I've had by far.

This was all around a solid beer but wasn't mind blowing by any means. Goes down smooth and was an easy drink. If you're a fan of the style, it's a good one to try.

Got this as a single for $1.89 at VE in Boardman, OH.

A vigorous pour into my SA glass produces a near opaque beer, with garnet highlights around the edges. A crown of beige foamy head is impressive in size, but not particularly long lived. There is very nice lacing left on the glass as the beer is quaffed, however. Nice look.

The nose is a bit understated, with roasty caramel malts, coffee and a touch of chocolate present. I was looking for a bit more.

The taste is similar to the nose in flavor aspects: roasty caramel/barley, coffee and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is bolder than the nose. This is a dry stout ... not astringent dry, or even Guinness dry, but dry. The mouthfeel is light-medium. I'd have liked to see a bit more body, but its pretty much on par for beers in this style category.

Overall, this is a very drinkable beer, and even, I might add, enjoyable. If you're a Guinness fan, you'll definitely enjoy this. I could easily quaff 2 or these in a session.

Na Zdravje!

12oz. bottle poured into my DFH signature glass.

A: Pours a very blanketed black with very little head. What little head that comes up quickly goes back down into a little film ring around the edge of the glass. No real lace on the way down.

S: I'm picking up some wonderful roasted coffee beans with a faint hint of vanilla and sweet chocolate.

T: Nice dry roasted coffee with a light oat malt background. Smooths out to a semi-bitter baker's chocolate. There are hints of a nice light sweet toffee or caramel as well.

M: Very dry on the tongue and medium bodied. Leave a very subtle bitter coffee on the tongue, but that quickly subsides to bland afterthought.

O: This was a very true to style Irish dry stout. I thought it was quite good for the style and I liked the subtle sweetness for this guy.

Looks like a porter but a little darker with a good white hat. The beer thins too much on the side. The smell is nice roasted with out too much coffee more chocolate. Tastes good if a little thin, I would like a touch more body, I know it is only 5% and all but... I guess you could session it but not something to seek out.

Loving Avery lately- this is the first stout I've had of theirs.

Poured into the Red Wings pint. A luxurious 1/2" caramel/bone head forms and disappears after the first few gulps. Very sticky and thick lacing.

Dark chocolate and a light hoppiness are the aroma. Some cherry.

Taste is full of dark fruit with roasty notes and slight hop bitterness, which ends up carrying the aftertaste. The dark fruit flavors work well with a slight tartness. Sticky, thick mouthfeel.

Not very alcoholic but certainly not an easy one to drink down quickly. The picture on the bottle is fitting- this is one to drink at the bottom of the ski hill, a thick, sustaining brew. But the perfect ski beer remains Bell's Double Cream Stout, in my mind.

A good example of the style that manages to get dark fruit qualities without actually adding fruit (like the North Peak porter with cherries in it).
