Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a St. Bernardus goblet glass.
Appearance: Pours a deep and hazy brownish amber with some ruby red. Lots of bubbles stick to the glass. Only a little bit of off white head appears then quickly fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.
Smell: A nicely malty, fruity, and spicy Quad aroma. Belgian yeast with some pepper and cinnamon spicing. Big scent of Belgian candied sugar and a little molasses. Toasted malts with big hints of caramel and toffee as well as some soft biscuit and cracker. Big dark fruit aroma with hints of dark cherries, grapes, raisins, plum, fig, dates, and currant. Also some subtle earthy hops in the background. Very solid smell.
Taste: Like it smells, malty and spicy with a big mix of dark fruit flavors. Belgian yeast with some pepper, cinnamon, and clove spices. Sweet candied Belgian sugar and a touch of molasses. Toasted malts with a big taste of caramel, toffee, and soft biscuit and cracker. Very juicy with a taste of dark grapes, cherries, fig, raisin, plum, dates, prune, and currants. Towards the finish is a light presence of earthy hops. A very good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, juicy, spicy, and very smooth. Alcohol heat is hidden very well.
Overall: A very good American take on a Belgian Quad. Has all the malty dark fruit taste you look for in the style.
