I sampled this beer at a tasting at Gomer's South in Kansas City. I loved it. Bought a few pint bottles, Release No. 16, Spring 2012. This review is from that purchase, poured into a tulip pint glass.
A: I was pretty disappointed with the external bottle. The foil wrapper over the cap left a gluey residue, and was kind of a turnoff. It turned out to be a great beer, but it started off on a bad note. The beer itself poured a vibrant Amber with about 1 finger head. Outstanding lacing. Visible sediment (yeast?).
S: Sweet citrus, strong sweet hops, slight alcohol, and a touch of honey. I get a malty scent of some sort, but haven't been able to pinpoint it. Maybe very subtle caramel?
T: Hops are tasted over top of, and throughout the other citrus and sweet malt flavor. Alcohol is definitely present. I disagree with some other posts that it is hidden. It is definitely noticeable, but let me be clear, with the combination of the hops and sweetness, it is excellent as far as flavor. Smooth, but lingering aftertaste, with dominating hops.
M: This double feels slightly thicker to me than a standard or even a double IPA usually feels. Moderately carbonated, especially noticeable on the back of the tongue. This beer was very pleasing to me on the mouth, and I wish more doubles could provide the feel without getting unnatural in taste.
O: The hops, malt, and alcohol work in excellent combination to provide an outstanding experience in a DIPA. This is a very hoppy beer, so if you really don't get into the hops, you won't enjoy it. It is also sweeter in flavor than most DIPAs I've had. But if you've established your buds to handle the strong IBU, you are going to really enjoy this beer. It is strong, and it hit me rather hard, so I would recommend a slow and cautious session. But this is definitely a beverage I will find and buy again.

This is a very good beer, but I have had better. Maybe I have held on to this one too long, but it was a bit too malty for my taste. Although the bottle promotes the balance and "control" like a raja of both hops and malts. I feel like the malts are too intense for the beer. Well balanced but for the style I would say medium to high ratings.
Color: Dark bronze, but with some transparency, also a very low amount of head and lacing.
Smell: Not as intense as a West Coast IPA. Maybe that is my favorite style?
Taste: Balanced, I got this one on sale for a super deal so I figured I would try it, but I would not pay what the original price reflected.
Overall: A Solid beer, well balanced, not as much hops going on as I would like but its not a bad beer in any regard. But, to me there are much better in the same price range.
